Herein we report a dinickel azacryptand complex that enables fast, selective, and tight CO2 binding from air. Exploiting the affinity of the cavitand towards azides, CO2 release was observed. Despite the stability of the azido complex, UV irradiation under atmospheric conditions proved to be a suitable pathway for N3(-) replacement by CO2.

Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) has been proposed as a means to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the continued use of fossil fuels. For geologic sequestration, the carbon dioxide is captured from large point sources (e.g., power plants or other industrial sources), transported to the injection site and injected into deep geological formations for storage. This will produ...

This paper analyzes potentials of carbon capture and sequestration technologies (CCT) in a set of long-term energy-economic-environmental scenarios based on alternative assumptions for technological progress of CCT. In order to get a reasonable guide to future technological progress in managing CO2 emissions, we review past experience in controlling sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from power pla...

As policy makers look for strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, they need to understand what options are available and under what conditions these technologies could be economically competitive. This paper explores the economics of carbon capture and sequestration technologies using the MIT Emissions Prediction and Policy Analysis (EPPA) model. We model two of the most promising carbon...

Despite competing views about climate change policy, the time is ripe to drive carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) forward . National and state investment in and support of CCS are completely consistent with the Donald Trump Administration’s goals to invest in infrastructure projects, continue U .S . reliance on fossil fuels, and create jobs . This Article, excerpted from Michael B . Gerrard...

Glossary Carbon sequestration: capture and secure storage of carbon that would otherwise be emitted to or remain in the atmosphere. Carbon sources: for this chapter, we are concerned with large stationary sources of CO2, e.g. fossil fueled power plants, cement manufacturing, ammonia production, iron and non-ferrous metal smelters, industrial boilers, refineries, natural gas wells. Carbon captur...

Carbon dioxide sequestration by algae is receiving an increased attention towards the impact of increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Biological carbon dioxide sequestration might be the most promising, environmental friendly & cost effective means of reducing carbon dioxide emission in the energy sector. Algae produce more oil compared to other plants and it can grown in open pond syste...

Climate change is one of the most important challenges in sustainable development that has negative effects on the ecosystems, land and water. The main cause of this phenomenon, increasing the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. The main method for reducing at CO2 atmosphere is increasing global carbon storage in soils, in other hand 75% total carbon stock on land has stored in soils. The s...

Greenhouse gas emissions have several adverse environmental effects, like pollution and climate change. Currently applied carbon capture and storage (CCS) methods are not cost effective and have not been proven safe for long term sequestration. Another attractive approach is CO2 valorization, whereby CO2 can be captured in the form of biomass via photosynthesis and is subsequently converted int...
