This paper studies the e¤ects of capacity utilization on accounting pro…t margins and stock returns. Since accounting pro…t margins represent the average pro…t per unit and not the economists’ concept of unit contribution margin, the marginal/variable pro…t per unit, a …rm with idle capacity can increase its pro…t margins by increasing sales (output). However, if the …rm is operating at full ca...

Finding the optimal encoding strategies can be challenging for communication using quantum channels, as classical and quantum capacities may be superadditive. Entanglement assistance can often simplify this task, as the entanglement-assisted classical capacity for any channel is additive, making entanglement across channel uses unnecessary. If the entanglement assistance is limited, the picture...

In this note, we present a fractional version of Haemers' bound on the Shannon capacity of a graph, which is originally due to Blasiak. This bound is a common strengthening of both Haemers' bound and the fractional chromatic number of a graph. We show that this fractional version outperforms any bound on the Shannon capacity that could be attained through Haemers' bound. We show also that this ...

A closed-form expression for the capacity of an array of correlated Gaussian channels is derived. It is shown that when signal and noise are independent, the array of observables can be replaced with a single observable without diminishing the capacity of the array channel. Examples are provided to illustrate the dependence of channel capacity on noise correlation for twoand three-channel arrays.

A transmitter and receiver need to be designed to guarantee reliable communication on any channel belonging to a given family of finite-state channels defined over common finite input, output, and state alphabets. Both the transmitter and receiver are assumed to be ignorant of the channel over which transmission is carried out and also ignorant of its initial state. For this scenario we derive ...

A bstract-In this paper we determine throughput equations for a packet radio network where terminals are randomly distributed on the plane, are able to capture transmitted signals, and use slotted ALOHA to access the channel. We find that the throughput of the network is a strictly increasing function of the receiver’s ability to capture signals, and depends on the transmission range of the ter...

OBJECTIVES This study was performed to assess the community capacity building ability of health promotion workers of public health centers and to identify influential factors to the ability. METHODS The subjects were 43 public officers from 16 public health centers in Busan Metropolitan City. Questionnaire was developed based on 'Community Capacity Building Tool' of Public Health Agency of Ca...
