(Received 27th November 1974) Studies on the sheep have provided more information concerning the hormonal changes that precede parturition than those on any other mammal. The implications of some of the findings are uncertain but a composite picture is gradually emerging. The ability of sheep placenta to convert C19-steroids to oestrogens (Ainsworth & Ryan, 1966; Pierrepoint, Anderson, Griffith...

We modify a previously suggested GMM estimator in a spatial panel regression model by taking into account the difference between disturbances and regression residuals and derive its asymptotic properties. Simulation results and an empirical application to Indonesian rice data illustrate the improvement in finite samples. JEL Classification: C13, C21

In randomized controlled trials, treatment is often assigned by stratified randomization. I show that among all randomization schemes treat units with probability one half, a certain matched-pair design achieves the maximum statistical precision for estimating average effect. an important special case, optimal pairs according to baseline outcome. simulation study based on datasets from ten this...

BACKGROUND AND AIM Few studies have explored the possible plasma cholesterol lowering effects of rye consumption. The aim of this secondary analysis in the SYSDIET study was to investigate the association between plasma alkylresorcinols (AR), a biomarker for whole grain wheat and rye intake, and blood lipid concentrations in a population with metabolic syndrome. Furthermore, we analyzed the ass...

A highly stereocontrolled total synthesis of the cytotoxic marine macrolide aplyronine C is described. The route exploits aldol methodology to install the requisite stereochemistry and features a crucial boron-mediated aldol coupling of an N-vinylformamide-bearing methyl ketone with a macrocyclic aldehyde to introduce the full side chain. The synthesis of two novel C21-C34 side chain analogs is...

Three new steroidal glycosides, named as stauntosides L, M, and N (1-3), along with one known C21 steroidal glycoside, anhydrohirundigenin monothevetoside (4), were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of the roots of Cynanchum stauntonii. The structures of these new compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, mainly 1D and 2D NMR, HRESI-MS, and chemical methods.

Activation of the angiotensin II type 2 receptor (AT2R) by administration of Compound 21 (C21), a selective AT2R agonist, induces neuroprotection in models of ischemic stroke in young adult animals. The mechanisms of this neuroprotective action are varied, and may include direct and indirect effects of AT2R activation. Our objectives were to assess the long-term protective effects of post-strok...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Aedes mosquito control has gained much importance nowadays in view of rise in number of reported cases of dengue and chikungunya in India and other countries. In the present study, C21 attracticide (containing a pheromone and an insect growth regulator—IGR, developed by Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, India was tested for its feasibility f...

Ingesting nutritionally imbalanced food can cause a significant reduction in fitness in insects. Insects can avoid the negative consequences of nutritional imbalances by selectively foraging for nutritionally complementary foods. We investigated the ability of the omnivorous beetle, Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), to redress nutritional imbalances by selecting complementary foods....
