A facile and efficient synthetic route leading to catalytically relevant N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) gold complexes is described. The method consists of one pot synthesis starting from readily available imidazolium salts and [AuCl(tht)], in the presence of K2CO3. Using the same protocol NHC silver complexes have been synthesised starting from AgNO3.
This paper is a report on the synthesis of the Fe3O4@Ag core-shell with high saturation magnetization of magnetite nanoparticles as the core, by using polyol route and silver shell by chemical reduction. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses confirmed that the particles so produced were monophase. The magnetic properties of the product were investigated by...
A lyotropic AgNO3, HAuCl4 and H2PtCl6–silica liquid crystalline (LC) phase is used as a supramolecular template for a one-pot synthesis of novel noble metal or complex ion containing nanocomposite materials in the form of a film and monolith. In these structures, Ag, AuCl4 2 and PtCl6 22 ions interact with the head group of an oligo(ethylene oxide) type non-ionic surfactant (C12H25(CH2CH2O)10OH...
BACKGROUND Eco-friendly synthesis of nanoparticles is viewed as an alternative to the chemical method and initiated the use of microorganisms for synthesis. The present study has been designed to utilize plant pathogenic fungi Sclerotinia sclerotiorum MTCC 8785 strain for synthesis and optimization of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) production as well as evaluation of antibacterial properties. The...
INTRODUCTION In a previous paper (Croghan, 19586) the very great osmo-regulating ability of Artemia has been described. It is clear that in concentrated media the animal must have very well-developed active mechanisms both for excreting NaCl and for taking up water to compensate for the passive movements of these substances into and out of the animal. The staining of localized parts of Crustace...
The focus of this research was to develop a better understanding of the pertinent physico-chemical properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) that affect genotoxicity, specifically how cellular uptake influences a genotoxic cell response. The genotoxicity of AgNPs was assessed for three potential mechanisms: mutagenicity, clastogenicity and DNA strand-break-based DNA damage. Mutagenicity (rever...
A simple and rapid microwave assisted method of green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was developed using aqueous leaf extract of Eucalyptus globulus(ELE), and their antibacterial and antibiofilm potential investigated. With this aim, the aqueous solutions of ELE and AgNO3(1 mM) were mixed (1:4 v/v), and microwave irradiated at 2450 Mhz, for 30 sec. The instant color change of the ELE...
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), owing to their unique physical and chemical properties, have become increasingly popular in consumer products. However, data on their potential biological effects on marine organisms, especially invertebrates, remain very limited. This proof of principle study reports the chronic sub-lethal toxicity of two coated AgNPs (oleic acid coated AgNPs and polyvinylpyrrolid...
The objective of this research was to fabricate Ag nanoparticles and control their sizes. Colloidal Ag nanoparticles with particle size of 30 nm were prepared by dissolving AgNO3 in ethanol and through the chemical reduction of Ag+ in alcohol solution. To control the nanoparticle size, different samples were fabricated by changing the AgNO3 and stabilizer concentrations and the effects of diff...
