Abstract Brushless DC motors (BLDCMs) with their own performance of obvious advantages: good speed regulation and high efficiency. BLDCMs have continuously replaced brushed induction in many competitive fields obtained more extensive applications. The common-mode voltage (CMV) the motor parasitic capacitance coupling shaft induces voltage. It then triggers current, resulting electrical corrosio...
In classical control of brushless dc motors, flux distribution is assumed trapezoidal and fed current is controlled rectangular to obtain a desired constant torque. However, in reality this assumption may not be correct due to nonuniformity of magnetic materials and design trade-offs. These factors together with current controller limitation, can lead to an undesirable torqueripple. Hence torqu...
In this paper, different electric motors are studied and compared to see the benefits of each motor and the one that is more suitable to be used in the electric vehicle (EV) applications. There are five main electric motor types, DC, induction, permanent magnet synchronous, switched reluctance and brushless DC motors are studied. It is concluded that although the induction motors technology is ...
Anti-control of chaos of single time-scale brushless DC motors is studied in this paper. In order to analyse a variety of periodic and chaotic phenomena, we employ several numerical techniques such as phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponents. Anti-control of chaos can be achieved by adding an external constant term or an external periodic term.
This paper presents a new position-and-velocity sensorless control of brushless dc motors using an adaptive sliding mode observer. The sliding mode observer is robust to measurement noises. Stability of the adaptive scheme is assured and estimation errors due to parameter deviations are analyzed.
The starting torque of a single-phase permanent magnet brushless dc motor is investigated, for both radial and parallel magnetization. Finite element analysis is used to assess the relative merits of alternative methods of introducing the required airgap asymmetry, viz. tapered airgap, stepped airgap, asymmetric airgap, and slotted teeth. The predicted results are validated experimentally.
