Unipolar brush cells are a class of interneurons in the granular layer of the mammalian cerebellum that receives excitatory mossy fiber synaptic input in the form of a giant glutamatergic synapse. Previously, it was shown that the unipolar brush cell axon branches within the granular layer, giving rise to large terminals. Single mossy fiber stimuli evoke a prolonged burst of firing in unipolar ...

Hamster intrinsic factor (IF) preparations markedly enhanced the uptake of (57)cobalt-labeled cyanocobalamin (B(12)-(57)Co) by brush borders and microvillous membranes isolated from villous absorptive cells obtained from the distal but not the proximal half of hamster intestine. A similar effect was observed with rat and rabbit IF preparations, but IF preparations obtained from man, dog, and ho...

A dipeptide hydrolase from the brush border of guinea-pig intestinal mucosa was purified. The enzyme resembles another dipeptide hydrolase isolated from the cytosol fraction of intestinal mucosa. Studies on the binding of cytosol peptide hydrolase to brush-border membranes indicate that the enzyme found in the brush border may be a cytoplasmic contaminant.

We propose a novel ‘‘e-brush’’ for calligraphy and painting, which meets all the criteria for a good e-brush. We use only four attributes to capture the essential features of the brush, and a suitably powerful modeling metaphor for its behavior. The e-brush s geometry, dynamic motions, and pigment changes are all dealt with in a single model. A single model simplifies the synchronization betwee...

We investigated the effect of counterion valence on the structure and swelling behavior of polyelectrolyte brushes using a nonlocal density functional theory that accounts for the excluded-volume effects of all ionic species and intrachain and electrostatic correlations. It was shown that charge correlation in the presence of multivalent counterions results in collapse of a polyelectrolyte brus...

This paper proposes a technique to animate a “Chinese style” painting given its image. We first extract descriptions of the brush strokes that hypothetically produced it. The key to the extraction process is the use of a brush stroke library, which is obtained by digitizing single brush strokes drawn by an experienced artist. The steps in our extraction technique are to first segment the input ...

The pig small intestinal brush border is a glycoprotein- and glycolipid-rich membrane that functions as a digestive/absorptive surface for dietary nutrients as well as a permeability barrier for pathogens. The present work was performed to identify carbohydrate-binding (lectinlike) proteins associated with the brush border. Chromatography on lactose-agarose was used to isolate such proteins, an...
