BACKGROUND Studies have indicated that the commonly used osteoporosis prescreening tools are not appropriate for use in every nation. This study was designed to develop and validate a prescreening model for bone mineral densitometry among Iranian postmenopausal women. METHODS From 13613 individuals who were referred for bone mineral densitometry in Shariati hospital in Tehran, 8644 postmenopa...

The study was performed in 45 patients with multiple myeloma. There was found significant correlation between diminished bone mineral density of forearm and duration of the disease. No correlation between bone mineral density and biochemical markers of osteolysis (pyridinoline and deoxypyridinoline in urine) and serum levels of cytokines was found.

Renal osteodystrophy is a common finding in patients with renal insufficiency. The maximum of its intensity is found in hemodialysis patients. Bone densitometry is so far the best method for non-invasive assessment of the extent of the illness. Some densitometric studies in hemodialysis patients have already been published but their results differ in prevalence and intensity of renal osteodystr...

Chronic glucocorticoid therapy is associated with reduced bone mineral density. In paediatric patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia, increased levels of androgens could not only counteract this effect, but could also advance bone age, with interference in the evaluation of densitometry. We evaluate bone mineral density in paediatric patients with classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia ta...

Current guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis do not address the risks to bone density and the likelihood of fracture that may be associated with inhaled corticosteroid treatment for asthma. This review outlines an approach to the use of bone densitometry in clinical practice for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of osteoporosis in asthmatic patients receiving inhale...

Background and purpose: Osteoporosis is a bone disease that reduces bone strength and increases the risk of fractures. Evidence suggest an association between nephrolithiasis and osteoporosis and decrease in bone density. The aim of this study was to compare bone densitometry in women with kidney stones and women with no history of stones. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was c...

Abstract. Osteoporosis is called a silent disease because bone fragility manifests itself to the patient only in an advanced state, through fracture and pain. Medical industry leaders recognize that current golden standard diagnostic method, densitometry, or Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA), may not always be sufficient assess patient’s real risk of [1]. Indeed, pathological alterations ...

Osteoporosis (OP) is a frequent complication of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and longitudinal studies have documented increased rate of bone loss in RA patients. To determine the frequency of low bone mass as well as the influence of disease duration and corticosteroid use on bone mass in patients with RA, 88 patients with RA and 112 age matched controls were studied. Bone densitometry was perform...
