Bone conduction implants are indicated for patients with conductive and mixed hearing loss that do not benefit from conventional hearing aids or for those that cannot use them for anatomy abnormalities or medical conditions. These implants are also indicated for patients with single-sided deafness (SSD), which consists of one ear with profound hearing loss and the contralateral with normal hear...

The Bone Conduction Implant (BCI) system has been developed as an alternative to the percutaneous bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) with the advantage that the skin is kept intact. The transducer is permanently implanted and attached to the skull via a flat surface contact to the temporal bone. By applying amplitude modulation, the sound signal is transmitted to the implanted transducer through ...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in bone conduction thresholds before, during and after total stapedectomy. STUDY DESIGN Prospective clinical study. METHODS In 27 ears of 26 patients undergoing stapedectomy under local anesthesia, bone conduction was measured before surgery, during surgery under open oval window conditions, and after the insertion of a steel wire conn...

Twenty individuals were tested to determine the occlusion effect caused by supraaural earphones and by insert earphones with shallow and deep insertion of its foam eartip. The bone-conduction oscillator was placed both on the forehead and the mastoid. It was concluded that using deeply inserted earphones is the most practical way in which to carry out clinical bone-conduction measurements.

The objective of this study was to compare boneconduction (BC) auditory steady-state responses (ASSR) for infants and adults with normal hearing to investigate the time course of maturation of BC hearing sensitivity. Bone-conduction multiple ASSRs were recorded in 0 11-month-old (n 35), and 12 24-monthold infants (n 13), and adults (n 18). Low-frequency BC ASSR thresholds increased with age, wh...

Military personnel are at risk for hearing loss due to noise exposure during deployment (USACHPPM, 2008). Despite mandated use of hearing protection, hearing loss and tinnitus are prevalent due to reluctance to use hearing protection. Bone conduction headsets can offer good speech intelligibility for normal hearing (NH) listeners while allowing the ears to remain open in quiet environments and ...

The objective of this controlled parallel group study was to assess the effects of standardized choke holds (test) and arm lock techniques (controls) in on the acoustic hearing threshold. 104 (test group, 32 female subjects and 72 male subjects, mean age = 28.0 years, SD = 7.9 years) and 51 experienced judoka (controls. 21 female subjects, 30 male subjects; mean age = 26.8 years; SD = 13.2 year...
