panese colleagues. Recently flat polyps have also been recognized in the West and have been noticed to have a higher incidence of significant neoplastic histology [1]. We describe two cases of a flat polyp missed or almost missed at colonoscopy, perhaps due to the effects of full insufflation. A 53-year-old healthy woman participated in a PillCam Colon 2 study in which PillCam Colon 2 capsule e...
Primary signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC) of colon at early stage is quite rare. Only 26 cases were reported until now. We report an early stage of primary SRC which was misdiagnosed as a juvenile polyp and treated with polypectomy followed by surgical resection. A 21-year-old male was administered for hematochezia. Abdominopelvic enhanced computed tomography revealed a polyp with active bleedin...
A metastatic focus of small circumscribed carcinoma in an endometrial polyp is extremely rare. Most of these reported cases have a primary carcinoma of the breast. We report a circumscribed metastatic squamous cell carcinoma in an endometrial polyp. This, to the best of our knowledge, is the first case report of metastasis of cervical carcinoma to a benign endometrial polyp.
A 47-year-old male with a history of left colon cancer, status post left colon resection for 12 years, presented with rectal bleeding. Colonoscopic examination revealed an 8 mm sessile polyp in the proximal descending colon. Microscopic examination showed that the surface of this polyp was covered with a layer of normal colonic mucosa with focal surface erosion. In the submucosal layer, an inti...
matory lesions in the lower gastrointestinal tract including polyps, masses and ulcers that are characterized by elongated and distorted glands surrounded by proliferation of smooth muscle fibers from the muscularis mucosae. The term “prolapsing mucosal polyp” was first described by Franzin et al in 1985 as a new entity of benign colorectal polyp. They reported that these benign colonic lesions...
Computed Tomographic Colonography (CTC) produces 2-d and 3-d images of the colon using computed tomography (CT). The main goal of CTC is to detect small lumps on the colon surface called polyps, which are known to be precursors to colon cancer. Radiologists are therefore interested in exploring the inner surface of the colon to detect polyps. Polyps may be detected by visual inspection of colon...
Benign neoplasms of the colon, rectum, anus and anal canal are true neoplasia colon mucosa associated with a high risk colorectal cancer (CC). The literature review analyzes epidemiology, factors, modern methods diagnosis treatment, describes priority minimally invasive interventions for benign tumors.
Background: There is no method to quantify the spatial complexity within colon polyps. This paper describes a spatial transformation that translates the tissue architecture within a polyp, or a normal colon lining, into a complex sinusoid wave composed of discrete points. This sinusoid wave can then undergo the Fast Fourier Transform to obtain a spectrum of frequencies that represents the sinus...
BACKGROUND Current measurement of the single longest dimension of a polyp is subjective and has variations among radiologists. Our purpose was to develop a computerized measurement of polyp volume in computed tomography colonography (CTC). METHODS We developed a 3D automated scheme for measuring polyp volume at CTC. Our scheme consisted of segmentation of colon wall to confine polyp segmentat...
Hairy polyp is a rare, benign tumor that frequently localizes in the nasopharynx and oropharynx. The embryogenesis of hairy polyp is not known precisely. The clinical profile can vary depending on the size and location of the tumor. In this report, we present a case with hairy polyp who was admitted with acute otitis media and completely recovered after spontaneous autoamputation.
