The most exciting result of the last decade has been the growing evidence that neutrinos are massive. The V-A structure of the electroweak theory requires only left handed and therefore massless neutrinos. Observation of neutrino mass is therefore in direct conflict with the Standard Model. The most important result, indicating that neutrinos do oscillate and therefore have to have mass, comes ...

We present a generalization of the wide baseline two view matching problem WXBS, where X stands for a different subset of “wide baselines" in acquisition conditions such as geometry, illumination, sensor and appearance. We introduce a novel dataset of groundtruthed image pairs which include multiple "wide baselines" and show that state-of-theart matchers fail on almost all image pairs from the ...

NTCIR-12 MedNLPDoc is a shared task of ICD coding task, which is a multi-labeling task to a patient medical record. This paper describes the baseline system of the task. The system is based on the simple word match with a disease name dictionary without any use of training data. This report presents the results of the baseline system, and discusses the basic feasibility of this system.

One major assumption for endocrine studies is that hormone titers are consistent within an individual so that if hormone titers are low relative to the cohort on one day, they are relatively low compared to the cohort on other days. This is an especially important assumption for most field studies where researchers may have access to an individual animal only once. We used a laboratory study wi...

We investigate the impact of recent advances in speech recognition techniques for under-resourced languages. Specifically, we review earlier results published on the Lwazi ASR corpus of South African languages, and experiment with additional acoustic modeling approaches. We demonstrate large gains by applying current state-of-the-art techniques, even if the data itself is neither extended nor i...

ALTHOUGH REPORTING BASELINE DATA seems simple, it is crucial information for readers in judging the validity of a trial. Knowing the baseline characteristics of the trial participants allows readers to assess how closely these match patients seen in their own clinical practice, and therefore how generalisable the results of the trial will be (so-called external validity). Baseline characteristi...

We present a fully automated method for the detection of changes within a scene between a reference and a sample image whose viewing angles differ by up to 30◦. We also describe an extension to the SIFT technique that allows extracted feature points to be matched over wider viewing angles. Matched correspondences between reference and sample images are used to construct a Delaunay triangulation...

The JLC/NLC is a normal conducting linear collider based on X-band RF technology. The collider is designed to cover the center-of-mass energy range from 90 GeV to 1.3 TeV with a luminosity of 2 to 3 ×1034 cm−2s−1 between 500 GeV and 1 TeV. The X-band RF system, which is based on the operating NLC Test Accelerator X-band RF system, was recently modified in a way that will ensure a less expensive...
