Ton, Van-Khue, and Rajini Rao. Functional expression of heterologous proteins in yeast: insights into Ca signaling and Ca -transporting ATPases. Am J Physiol Cell Physiol 287: C580–C589, 2004; 10.1152/ajpcell.00135.2004.— The baker’s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a well-developed, versatile, and widely used model organism. It offers a compact and fully sequenced genome, tractable genetics, ...

Salmonella enterica sv. typhimurium (S. enterica sv. Typhimurium) has two metal-transporting P(1)-type ATPases whose actions largely overlap with respect to growth in elevated copper. Mutants lacking both ATPases over-accumulate copper relative to wild-type or either single mutant. Such duplication of ATPases is unusual in bacterial copper tolerance. Both ATPases are under the control of MerR f...

The thylakoid lumen of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803 is supplied with copper via two copper-transporting ATPases and a metallochaperone intermediary. We show that the copper site of this metallochaperone is unusual and consists of two cysteine residues and a histidine imidazole located on structurally dynamic loops. Substitution of this histidine residue enhances bacterial two-hybri...

In most eukaryotic cells, vacuolar H(+)-ATPases (V-ATPases) are present primarily or exclusively in intracellular membrane compartments, functioning in the acidification of the endocytic and secretory vacuolar apparatus necessary for constitutive cell function. V-ATPases also participate in renal hydrogen ion secretion in both the proximal and distal nephron, residing at high concentrations on ...

Participatory approaches are frequently recommended for international development programs, but few have been evaluated. From 2007 to 2010 the Andean Change Alliance evaluated an agricultural research and development approach known as the "Participatory Market Chain Approach" (PMCA). Based on a study of four cases, this paper examines the fidelity of implementation, the factors that influenced ...

Two new triphenylamine-based hole-transporting materials (HTMs) containing butadiene derivatives are employed in CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite solar cells. Up to 11.63% of power conversion efficiency (PCE) has been achieved. Advantages such as easy synthesis, low cost and relatively good cell performance exhibit a possibility for commercial applications in the future.

Regulation of cellular copper (Cu) homeostasis involves Cu-transporting ATPases (Cu-ATPases), i.e., ATP7A and ATP7B. The question as to how these Cu-ATPases in brain barrier systems transport Cu, i.e., toward brain parenchyma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), or blood, remained unanswered. This study was designed to characterize roles of Cu-ATPases in regulating Cu transport at the blood-brain barrie...
