We present measurements of the spatial clustering of ultraluminous infrared galaxies in two redshift intervals, 1.5 < z < 2.0 and 2 < z < 3. Both samples cluster strongly, with r0 = 14.40± 1.99h Mpc for the 2 < z < 3 sample, and r0 = 9.40 ± 2.24h Mpc for the 1.5 < z < 2.0 sample, making them among the most biased galaxies at these epochs. These clustering amplitudes are consistent with both pop...

Recently, we have presented the first, truly large-scale radiative transfer simulations of inhomogeneous cosmic reionization which resolve all the possible halo sources down to the dwarf galaxy mass range, M > ∼ 109M⊙, in a comoving volume (100 hMpc). This is large enough to sample the global mean history, geometry and statistical properties of reionization fairly and accurately for the first t...

We develop a new method to reconstruct the cosmic density field from the distribution of dark matter haloes above a certain mass threshold. Our motivation is that well-defined samples of galaxy groups/clusters, which can be used to represent the dark halo population, can now be selected from large redshift surveys of galaxies, and our ultimate goal is to use such data to reconstruct the cosmic ...

Integral measures of weak gravitational lensing by dark-matter haloes, like the aperture mass, are sensitive to different physical halo properties dependent on the halo mass density profile. For isothermal profiles, the relation between aperture mass and virial mass is steeper than for haloes with the universal NFW profile. Consequently, the halo mass range probed by the aperture mass is much w...

We investigate whether a correlation exists between the concentration (2̧00) and spin (λ) parameters of dark matter haloes forming in ΛCDM N-body simulations. In particular, we focus on haloes with virial masses in the range 10 6 Mvir/h M⊙ 6 2×10 , characteristic of the hosts of Low Surface Brightness (LSB) and High Surface Brightness (HSB) galaxies. Our analysis demonstrates that 2̧00 and λ are ...

We present a new algorithm (PINOCCHIO, PINpointing Orbit-Crossing Collapsed HIerarchical objects) to predict accurately the formation and evolution of individual dark matter haloes in a given realization of an initial linear density field. Compared with the halo population formed in a large (360 particles) collisionless simulation of a CDM universe, our method is able to predict to better than ...

We evaluate the success of linear tidal-torque theory (TTT) in predicting galactichalo spin using a cosmological N -body simulation with thousands of well-resolved haloes. The proto-haloes are identified by tracing today’s haloes back to the initial conditions. The TTT predictions for the proto-haloes match, on average, the spin amplitudes of today’s virialized haloes if linear growth is assume...

The paramagnetic molecule nitric oxide (NO), produced from L-arginine by a specific enzyme (NO synthase), has been shown to be involved in a surprising variety of mammalian cellular responses, including the regulation of T cell immunity to alloantigens in vitro. In cytotoxic activated macrophages, NO production results in a characteristic pattern of alteration of iron-containing enzyme function...
