With the advent of anti-retroviral therapy, non-AIDS-related comorbidities have increased in people living with HIV. Among these comorbidities, pulmonary hypertension (PH) is one most common causes morbidity and mortality. Although chronic HIV-1 infection independently associated development arterial hypertension, PH HIV may also be outcome various co-morbidities commonly observed individuals i...
TAK-220 is a CCR5 antagonist, part of the new class of anti-human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (anti-HIV-1) entry inhibitors. We evaluated the anti-HIV-1 interactions between TAK-220 and various antiretrovirals in vitro. Synergy was observed with all drugs at the 90 and 95% inhibitory concentrations. The favorable drug interactions observed suggest that further clinical evaluation is warranted.
In the UK, HIV is considered to be a risk factor for anti-tuberculosis drug resistance. Evidence on the association is, however, inconclusive and there is little population level data. This study investigated the association in England and Wales during 1999-2005. National tuberculosis surveillance data for adults were matched to HIV/AIDS reports. Unmatched cases were assumed to be HIV-negative....
conclusions globally, interventions that comprise evidence-based prevention, care and treatment of substance use disorders in young adults are vital to reduce the transmission of hiv infection and promote good clinical outcomes for young adults at-risk for living with hiv. context young adults comprise roughly one-quarter of the global population and are at the developmental stage where persona...
Drug-resistant variants of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) are also known to be resistant to anti-RT RNA aptamers. In order to be able to develop diagnostics and therapies that can focus on otherwise drug-resistant viruses, we have isolated two aptamers against a well-known, drug-resistant HIV-1 RT, Mutant 3 (M3) from the multidrug-resistant HIV-1 RT panel. One aptamer, M302, bound M3 but show...
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Tuberculosis is the commonest opportunistic disease in persons infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Emergence of drug resistant isolates of M. tuberculosis highlights the need for continuous monitoring of drug resistance to antituberculosis drugs. Considering the reported high prevalence of drug resistance in HIV infected tuberculosis patients, we studied the...
conclusions the findings highlight a need for removing stigma and providing high quality women-only hiv services. increasing trust and knowledge of available hiv services are needed for this group of women. increasing staff knowledge is a priority. an integrated supportive network among drug treatment and hiv centers is suggested in iran. results the interview accounts highlighted a number of b...
human immunodeficiency virus infection / acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (hiv/aids) is a disease pertained to the human immune system. given its crucial role in viral replication, hiv-1 protease (hiv-1 pr) is a prime therapeutic target in aids therapy. in this regard, the dynamic aspects of ligand-enzyme interactions may indicate an important role of conformational variability in hiv-1 pr in...
Background. Overlapping toxicity between drugs used for HIV and TB could complicate the management of HIV/TB coinfected patients, particularly those carrying multiple opportunistic infections. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes and adverse drug events in HIV patients managed with first-line antiretroviral and first-line anti-TB drugs. Methods. This is a retrospective study utili...
