We report a new technique for building a wide-angle, lightweight, thin-form-factor, cost-effective, easy-to-manufacture near-eye head-mounted display (HMD) for virtual reality applications. Our approach adopts an aperture mask containing an array of pinholes and a screen as a source of imagery. We demonstrate proof-of-concept HMD prototypes with a binocular field of view (FOV) of 70°×45°, or to...

This study investigates the extent to which asset accumulation by young married couples in early married life can be explained by financial, other economic and attitudinal variables. It finds, among other things, that at least for this sample, those who started out better off kept getting still better off financially, and that going into debt was a major correlate of later financial well being.

Loss of fitness due to the accumulation of deleterious mutations appears to be inevitable in small, obligately asexual populations, as these are incapable of reconstituting highly fit genotypes by recombination or back mutation. The cumulative buildup of such mutations is expected to lead to an eventual reduction in population size, and this facilitates the chance accumulation of future mutatio...

This paper introduces accumulation into list homomorphisms for systematic development of both efficient and correct parallel programs. New parallelizable recursive pattern called H-homomorphism is given, and transformations from sequential patterns in the H-form and Hform into (H-)homomorphism are shown. We illustrate the power of our formalization by developing a novel and general parallel pro...

Community-based question answering (cQA) services have accumulated millions of questions and their answers over time. In the process of accumulation, cQA services assume that questions always have unique best answers. However, with an indepth analysis of questions and answers on cQA services, we find that the assumption cannot be true. According to the analysis, at least 78% of the cQA best ans...

This chapter considers a recent trend in the application of stochastic games to economics characterized by the use of the lattice-theoretic approach to capture the monotonic properties of Markovian equilibria. The topics covered are: (i) a general framework for discounted stochastic games with Liptchitz-continuous and monotone equilibrium strategies and values, (ii) a model of capital accumulat...

This paper constructs a quantitative lifecycle model with uninsurable labor income and aggregate housing return risk to assess how Korean households make saving and portfolio allocation decisions. The model incorporates the special roles housing plays in the portfolio of households: collateral, a source of service flows, as well as a source of potential capital gains or losses. In the model, a ...

The WARPS cluster survey is based on the ROSAT PSPC archive of pointed observations. It includes extended X-ray sources, detected with the Voronoi Tessel-lation and Percolation algorithm (VTP), and point-like X-ray sources with non-stellar optical counterparts. It is designed to minimize selection eeects whilst covering a large area of sky. The aims of the survey are to (a) measure the low lumi...

Knowledge of the worm origin is necessary to forensic analysis, and knowledge of the initial causal flows supports diagnosis of how network defenses were breached. Fast and accurate online tracing network worm during its propagation, help to detect worm origin and the earliest infected nodes, and is essential for large-scale worm containment. This paper introduces the Accumulation Algorithm whi...

Drug discovery is a long process in which only a few successful new therapeutic discoveries are made and identification of drug target candidate proteins requires considerable time and efforts. However, the accumulation of information on drugs has made it possible to devise new computational methods for classifying drug target candidates. In this paper, we devise a Drug Target Protein (DT-P) cl...
