Concurrent detection of failures in analog circuits is becoming increasingly more important as safety-critical systems become more widespread. A methodology for the automatic design of concurrent failure detection circuitry for linear analog systems is discussed in this paper. In contrast to previous approaches, the methodology aims at providing coverage in terms of all the circuit components w...

This paper describes a set of specialized GA methods for the analog circuit design, i.e., the component-list chromosome, the multi-staged evolution, and the size reducing pressure. In the several experiments, these methods have shown to achieve the robustness, the efficiency in time and the hardware consumption.

This paper presents early findings from the ETL project, a national study in Britain which is investigating teaching and learning across five contrasting subject areas in higher education. The focus here is on electronic engineering and, in particular on analogue electronics. Staff in six course units have collaborated with the researchers to enable data to be collected from their students, and...

Nonlinear functions can be approximated by the linear combination of base functions, which provides a road towards the analog synthesis. An improved Simulated Annealing Algorithm(SA) for nonlinear function approximation and a universal implementation of analog circuits are presented in this paper. Synthesis results demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed approach.

In this study we model the daily rainfall occurrence using Markov Chain Analogue Yearmodel (MCAYM) and the intensity or amount of daily rainfall using three different probability distributions; gamma, exponential and mixed exponential distributions. Combining the occurrence and intensity model we obtain Markov Chain Analogue Year gamma model (MCAYGM), Markov Chain Analogue Year exponentia...

The past 30 years have seen an enormous growth in the power and sophistication of digital design tools, while progress in analog tools has been much more modest. Digital tools use many abstractions to allow them to validate implementations match the functional models, and the composition of cells matches the composition of the functional models. While there are many reasons why this is more dif...

Motivated by the Hankel determinant evaluation of moment sequences, we study a kind of Pfaffian analogue evaluation. We prove an LU -decomposition analogue for skew-symmetric matrices, called Pfaffian decomposition. We then apply this formula to evaluate Pfaffians related to some moment sequences of classical orthogonal polynomials. In particular we obtain a product formula for a kind of q-Cata...

The second generation current conveyor CCII is introduced in this paper as a most versatile analog building block for realization of many other active circuits and applications. Short overview of interesting connections, using modular approach of design, with CCII are presented here, as well as two topologies of the conveyor, realized in CMOS technology, including their measured parameters.

The ‘radioactive dice’ experiment is a commonly used classroom analogue to model the decay of radioactive nuclei. However, the value of the half-life obtained from this experiment differs significantly from that calculated for real nuclei decaying exponentially with the same decay constant. This article attempts to explain the discrepancy and suggests modifications to the experiment to minimize...

In low voltage low power CMOS systems the high input offset and noise voltages of MOSFETs and the moderate gain of op amps limit the accuracy of analog circuits. In this paper we summarize the results ofour recent research on the dynamic op amp matching which is a very attractive technique for the implementation of accurate analog circuits in low voltage low power CMOS systems because, in compa...
