An efficient route for the preparation of substituted N-heterocycles was developed through the amine addition to nitroalkenes. The reaction tolerates a large substrate scope with good to excellent yields (up to 95%) and excellent stereoselectivities (up to 99 : 1 dr).

The direct decarboxylative arylation of α-amino acids has been achieved via visible light-mediated photoredox catalysis. This method offers rapid entry to prevalent benzylic amine architectures from an abundant biomass, specifically α-amino acid precursors. Significant substrate scope is observed with respect to both the amino acid and arene components.

No muss, no fuss: A rhodium-catalyzed direct intermolecular C-H amination of benzamides and ketoximes using aryl azides as the amine source has been developed. The reaction exhibits a broad substrate scope with excellent functional-group tolerance, requires no external oxidants, releases N(2) as the only by-product, and produces diarylamines in high yields.

Weakly charged solid substrates can be nano-patterned in liquid-like order with large and well-defined spacing by adsorbing poly(amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrimers; highly charged substrates lead to lower spacing due to electrostatic three-body attractions between the dendrimers and the substrate.

BACKGROUND Whole-cell biocatalysis based on metabolically active baker's yeast with engineered transamination activity can be used to generate molecules carrying a chiral amine moiety. A prerequisite is though to express efficient ω-transaminases and to reach sufficient intracellular precursor levels. RESULTS Herein, the efficiency of three different ω-transaminases originating from Capsicum ...

Copper (Cu) containing metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are found to be highly efficient heterogeneous catalysts for oxidation of various alcohols. A wide range of alcohols, including alcohols containing inactive hetero-aryl and long-chain alkyl units, are selectively converted into their corresponding products. The catalytic efficiency of the Cu containing MOFs, along with the co-catalyst 2,2,6...

Previous studies have shown that substrate surface chemistry and topography exhibit significant impact on haematopoietic progenitor cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. In the present study, the effect of surface amine density and structure of grafted polymer chains on the adhesion and expansion of haematopoietic progenitor cells was investigated. Cryopreserved human umbilical cord...

The functional groups found among the RNA bases and in the phosphoribose backbone represent a limited repertoire from which to construct a ribozyme active site. This work investigates the possibility that simple RNA phosphodiester and hydroxyl functional groups could catalyze amide bond synthesis. Reaction of amine groups with activated esters would be catalyzed by a group that stabilizes the p...

The stereochemical course of the reaction catalyzed by a copper amine oxidase from Arthrobacter globiformis has been investigated using 2-phenylethylamine stereospecifically deuterium-labeled at the C1 position. Measurements of deuterium content in the product, phenylacetaldehyde, by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed stereospecific abstraction of the pro-S hydrogen during the enzyma...

The reduction of [Pt(COD)(CH3)2] with CO in the presence of hexadecylamine (HDA) and oleic acid (OlAc) leads to amine carbonylation and formation of an air-stable colloidal solution of N,N'-bis(hexadecyl)urea-stabilized Pt(0) nanoparticles. These air-stable colloidal solutions can be used to form thin films of Pt nanoparticles on a silicon substrate.
