In this paper we discuss the development, validation, and application of analytic potential energy functions for simulating Al nanoparticles. We consider six functions, the Ercolessi-Adams, Mei– Davenport, Sutton–Chen, and Streitz–Mintmire functions from the literature and the NP-A and NP-B functions from our group. We find that the NP-A and NP-B potential energy functions, which were fit to a ...

The possibility of a new technique for fabricating nanoparticles from thin films using selective oxidation in an atmosphere mixture of water vapor and hydrogen was investigated. Fe-5wt.%Al films were RF-sputtered and annealed in the atmosphere mixture at 900°C for up to 200 min, in order to oxidize aluminum selectively. Thermodynamics simulation showed that temperatures exceeding 800°C are nece...

The present work describes the synthesis and characterization of PLA-co-EC copolymer from lactic acid and ethyl cellulose by azeotropic dehydration, under reduced pressure, at 140oC for 8 hours. The prepared PLA-co-EC copolymer was used for controlled drug release for an anticancer drug namely 6-Thioguanine with gold nanoparticles. Anticancer drug containing PLAco-EC copolymer nanocapsules were...

We report the self-assembly of metallic nanoparticle arrays using DNA crystals as a programmable molecular scaffolding. Gold nanoparticles, 1.4 nm in diameter, are assembled in two-dimensional arrays with interparticle spacings of 4 and 64 nm. The nanoparticles form precisely integrated components, which are covalently bonded to the DNA scaffolding. These results show that heterologous chemical...

The surface of γ-alumina nanoparticles can be characterized by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) surface-enhanced NMR of (27)Al. DNP is combined with cross-polarization and MQ-MAS to determine local symmetries of (27)Al sites at the surface.

Three ZnAl2O4 samples were prepared via a modified polyacrylamide gel method using a citric acid solution with different aluminum salt starting materials, including AlCl3 ∙ 6H2O, Al2(SO4)3 ∙ 18H2O, and Al(NO3)3 ∙ 9H2O under identical conditions. The influence of different aluminum salts on the morphologies, phase purity, and optical and fluorescence properties of the as-prepared ZnAl2O4 nanopar...

Large-area Au-aggregate-assembled fractal patterns with tailored sizes and densities are achieved by sputtering Au nanoparticles on hexagonally patterned bowl-shaped-dimples on Al foil and subsequent annealing. After decorating with much smaller Ag nanoparticles, the resultant substrates exhibit an active and reproducible SERS effect.

The rapid expansion of nanotechnology opens up new opportunities in antimicrobial research. According to the reports, biogenic metal and metal oxide nanoparticles represent a group of materials which investigated in respect to their antimicrobial effects. The antimicrobial activity of metals such as silver (Ag), copper (Cu), gold (Au), titanium (Ti), platinum (pt) and zinc (Zn), each having var...

in this study, the elemental powders of aluminum and copper were initially subjected to mechanical alloying using an attrition ball mill under argon atmosphere to produce an al-4.5 wt% cu powder alloy. the wc nanoparticles were then added to the powder alloy and milled in a planetary ball mill to explore the role of the wc nanoparticles on the mechanical properties of the fabricated composite p...
