Different aspects of advanced surface mount package technology have been investigated for aerospace applications. Three key areas included the assembly reliability of conventional Surface Mount, Bali Grid Arrays (BGAs), and Chip Scale Packages. Reliability of BGAs was assessed as part of a consortium effort led by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Nearly 200 test vehicles, each with four packages,...

Currently many aerospace vehicle systems require lightweight, high performance pressurized tank for storage of propellant, nitrogen, oxygen, or other medium. Aircrafts have several needs for high-pressure stored gas, like aircraft escape slide inflation systems, emergency oxygen supply, landing gear actuator, engine pressurized air start system and on-board inert gas generating system nitrogen ...
This paper proposes a robust design optimization methodology under design uncertainties of an aerospace vehicle propulsion system. The approach consists of 3D geometric design coupled with complex internal ballistics, hybrid optimization, worst-case deviation, and efficient statistical approach. The uncertainties are propagated through worst-case deviation using first-order orthogonal designmat...
The NASA Lewis Research Center is actively involved in the development of expert system technology to assist users in applying parallel processing to computational fluid and structural dynamic analysis. The goal of this effort is to eliminate the necessity for the physical scientist to become a computer scientist in order to effectively use the computer as a research tool. g A Programing and op...
This researchhas been conducted to perform a model for ballistics and propulsion specifications or characteristics of a monopropellant Propulsion system. The specifications such as total impulse, thrust, mass flow rate, specific impulse, characteristic velocity and total weight of consumed propellant are important in propulsion performance determination. Among 31th experimental hot tests of mon...
Energy distribution results from pulsed inductive discharges in Argon and Xenon are presented. Calculations are based on a series RLC circuit analysis of the Missouri Plasmoid Experiment in vacuum and plasma. Initial results show an energy deficit of 16.3 J and 15.9 J for Argon and Xenon, respectfully, for a 10 mTorr pre-fill with 79.5 J initial stored energy. At 100 mTorr, the deficits increas...
Thin film thermocouples (TFTCs) can provide more precise in situ temperature measurement for aerospace propulsion systems without disturbance of gas flow and surface temperature distribution of the hot components. ITO/PtRh:PtRh TFTC with multilayer structure was deposited on alumina ceramic substrate by magnetron sputtering. After annealing, the TFTC was statically calibrated for multiple cycle...
Over the last decades quaternions have become a crucial and very successful tool for attitude representation in robotics and aerospace. However, there is a major problem that is continuously causing trouble in practice when it comes to exchanging formulas or implementations: there are two quaternion multiplications in common use, Hamilton’s multiplication and its flipped version, which is often...
