Micrococcus sp. strain V7, an actinobacterial strain adapted to the extreme conditions of the Laguna Vilama, an extremely high-altitude (4,600 m above sea level) lake in the Argentinian Puna, was found to carry the giant linear plasmid pLMV7. We determined its sequence (92,815 bp) as a prerequisite to the investigation of its role in survival in such a harsh environment.

An unusual aspect of actinobacterial metabolism is the use of the redox cofactor F420. Studies have shown that actinobacterial F420H2-dependent reductases promiscuously hydrogenate diverse organic compounds in biodegradative and biosynthetic processes. These enzymes therefore represent promising candidates for next-generation industrial biocatalysts. In this work, we undertook the first broad s...

Actinobacterial strain 72(T), named Dietzia alimentaria, which belongs to the family Dietziaceae, was isolated from a traditional Korean food made from clams. The draft genome sequence of D. alimentaria 72(T) contains 3,352,817 bp, with a G+C content of 67.34%.

Here, we report the draft genome sequence of the only species of the genus Lysinimicrobium, Lysinimicrobium mangrovi NBRC 105856(T), isolated from the rhizosphere of a mangrove. The first genomic sequence of this genus and species presented here will facilitate taxonomical, ecological, and functional studies of this rare actinobacterial group.

Brachybacterium squillarum M-6-3(T) was isolated from salt-fermented seafood in Korea and belongs to the Dermabacteraceae, a rather isolated family within the actinobacterial suborder Micrococcineae. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of the type strain Brachybacterium squillarum M-6-3(T) (3,191,479 bp), a Gram-positive bacterium with high (72.8%) G+C content.

Marine environments are a rich source of Actinobacteria and have the potential to produce a wide variety of biologically active secondary metabolites. In this study, we used four selective isolation media to culture Actinobacteria from the sediments collected from the Chukchi Shelf in the Arctic Ocean. A total of 73 actinobacterial strains were isolated. Based on repetitive DNA fingerprinting a...

Cyanuric acid was likely present on prebiotic Earth, may have been a component of early genetic materials, and is synthesized industrially today on a scale of more than one hundred million pounds per year in the United States. In light of this, it is not surprising that some bacteria and fungi have a metabolic pathway that sequentially hydrolyzes cyanuric acid and its metabolites to release the...

Streptomyces bacteria make numerous secondary metabolites, including half of all known antibiotics. Production of antibiotics is usually coordinated with the onset of sporulation but the cross regulation of these processes is not fully understood. This is important because most Streptomyces antibiotics are produced at low levels or not at all under laboratory conditions and this makes large sca...
