We show that a generalized charge SU(2) symmetry of the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model in an infinitesimal flux φ generates half-filling states from metallic states which lead to a finite charge stiffness D(T ) at finite temperature T , whose T dependence we study. Our results are of general nature for many integrable quantum lattice systems, reveal the microscopic mechanisms behind their e...

We develop a novel quantum transfer matrix method to study thermodynamic properties of one-dimensional (1D) disordered electronic systems. It is shown that the partition function can be expressed as a product of 2 × 2 local transfer matrices. We demonstrate this method by applying it to the 1D disordered Anderson model. Thermodynamic quantities of this model are calculated and discussed.

Integrating information is essential to measure the physical 2D motion of a surface from both ambiguous local 1D motion of its elongated edges and non-ambiguous 2D motion of its features such as corners or texture elements. The dynamics of this motion integration shows a complex time course as read from tracking eye movements: first, local 1D motion signals are extracted and pooled to initiate ...

General SFM methods give poor results for images captured by constrained motions such as planar motion of concentric mosaics (CM). In this paper, we propose new SFM algorithms for both images captured by CM and composite mosaic images from CM. We first introduce 1D affine camera model for completing 1D camera models. Then we show that a 2D image captured by CM can be decoupled into two 1D image...

A reduced-order model for an efficient analysis of cardiovascular hemodynamics problems using multiscale approach is presented in this work. Starting from a patient-specific computational mesh obtained by medical imaging techniques, an analysis methodology based on a two-step automatic procedure is proposed. First a coupled 1D-3D Finite Element Simulation is performed and the results are used t...

Interfaces are studied in an inhomogeneous critical state where boundary pinning is compensated with a ramped force. Sandpiles driven off the self-organized critical point provide an example of this ensemble in the Edwards-Wilkinson (EW) model of kinetic roughening. A crossover from quenched to thermal noise violates spatial and temporal translational invariances. The bulk temporal correlation ...

Overexpression of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in human cancer contributes to tumor metastasis, but the role of 5-HT receptor family in cancer has not been thoroughly explored. Here, we report overexpression of 5-HT(1D) receptor (5-HT(1D)R) was associated with Wnt signaling pathway and advanced tumor stage. The underlying mechanism of 5-HT(1D)R-promoted tumor invasion was through its activation o...

We present a quantum and classical theory of electronic devices with one–dimensional (1D) channels made of a single carbon nanotube or a semiconductor nanowire. An essential component of the device theory is a self–consistent model for electrostatics of 1D systems. It is demonstrated that specific screening properties of 1D wires result in a charge distribution in the channel different from tha...

We use the Kramers-Heisenberg approach to derive a general expression for the resonant Raman scattering cross section from a one-dimensional 1D system explicitly accounting for excitonic effects. The result should prove useful for analyzing the Raman resonance excitation profile line shapes for a variety of 1D systems including carbon nanotubes and semiconductor quantum wires. We apply this for...

Low-dimensional iterated map models have been widely used to study action potential dynamics in isolated cardiac cells. Coupled iterated map models have also been widely used to investigate action potential propagation dynamics in one-dimensional (1D) coupled cardiac cells, however, these models are usually empirical and not carefully validated. In this study, we first developed two coupled ite...
