Pancreatic cancer is a common malignancy whose prognosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer is extremely poor, with only 20% of patients reaching two years of survival. Previous findings have shown that the tumor suppressor p53 is involved in the development of various types of cancer, including pancreatic cancer. Additionally, p53 is able to activate TP53INP1 transcription by regulating severa...

The full-genome sequences of three drug- and multidrug-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae clinical isolates of serotype 19A were determined by PacBio single-molecule real-time sequencing, in combination with Illumina MiSeq sequencing. A comparison to the genomes of other pneumococci indicates a high nucleotide sequence identity to strains Hungary19A-6 and TCH8431/19A.

SARS-CoV-2 mutations appeared recently and can lead to conformational changes in the spike protein probably induce modifications antigenicity. We assessed neutralizing capacity of antibodies prevent cell infection, using a live virus neutralization test with different strains [19A (initial one), 20B (B.1.1.241 lineage), 20I/501Y.V1 (B.1.1.7 20H/501Y.V2 (B.1.351 lineage)] serum samples collected...

We have developed a syngeneic monoclonal antibody (MoAb) (244-19A) which retards growth and contributes to cures of BALB/c mice bearing Moloney sarcoma cell (MSC) tumors (S.J. Kennel, T. Lankford, and K.M. Flynn, Cancer Res., 43: 2843-2847, 1983). The 244-19A epitope has not been detected in normal tissue or in any cultured cell (other than MSC) tested, including 15 different BALB/c sarcomas. M...

Fosfomycin targets the first step of peptidoglycan biosynthesis in Streptococcus pneumoniae catalyzed by UDP-N-acetylglucosamine enolpyruvyltransferase (MurA1). We investigated whether heteroresistance to fosfomycin occurs in S. pneumoniae. We found that of 11 strains tested, all but 1 (Hungary(19A)) displayed heteroresistance and that deletion of murA1 abolished heteroresistance. Hungary(19A) ...

Streptococcus pneumoniae, a major human pathogen, expresses at least 91 serologically distinct carbohydrate capsules. Since pneumococcal vaccines are designed to elicit antibodies against many different capsular polysaccharides (PSs), it is important to identify the epitopes involved in eliciting anti-capsular PS antibodies. We investigated the epitopes recognized by Dob1, which is a hybridoma-...

Ongoing surveillance for Streptococcus pneumoniae is needed to assess the impact of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine introduced in 2010 (PCV13). Forty-two U.S. centers submitted S. pneumoniae isolates between 1 October 2012 and 31 March 2013. Susceptibility testing was performed by use of a broth dilution method as recommended by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. Serotyping was...

Resident cells, such as fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS), play a crucial role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). They are implicated in the inflammatory response and play a key role in osteoarticular destruction. Moreover, RA FLS spread RA to unaffected joints. Pathogen-associated molecular patterns and damage-associated molecular patterns have been found to activate RA FLS by interacting with pat...

5-Lipoxygenase (5-LO) is the key enzyme in leukotriene biosynthesis. Leukotrienes are mediators of the innate immune system and inflammatory processes, and they might also be involved in cancer development. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are important translational regulators and have been shown to be involved in development, differentiation, and cancer. Unraveling the miRNA network is important for unders...
