In this paper we present algebraic constructions of 3×3, 4× 4 and 6 × 6 Space-Time Codes, achieving full rate and full diversity. These codes have non-vanishing (in fact fixed) minimum determinants when the rate goes to infinity. Their construction is based on cyclic algebras with center equal to an algebraic field based on cyclotomic fields .

A nuclear continuous bagasse weigher was installed at Felixton Sugar Mill towards the end of the 1973174 crushing season and accuracy checks were performed on the weigher using an assized weighbridge as the reference standard. The average error was found to be 0,2% of full scale whilst the individual test errors were all well within 2% of full scale.

We describe the use of the ANGELIC methodology, developed to encapsulate knowledge of particular legal domains, to build a full scale practical application for internal use by a firm of legal practitioners. We describe the application, the sources used, the stages in development and the application. Some evaluation of the project and its potential for further development is given. The project r...

In this study, basic experiments regarding the wireless sensor network were conducted on a 3,000-ton-class training ship as the first step in applying the ubiquitous technology to a real ship. Various application fields of the technology in terms of the provision of safety and convenience on a ship would be extracted through these experiments. To efficiently adopt the ubiquitous technology for ...

Three full-scale Australian wastewater treatment plants are reviewed to present the ‘lessons learnt’ so far in developing an improved design and operating strategy able to efficiently achieve biological nitrogen removal and phosphorus removal. The success of the ‘state of the art’ wastewater treatment plants is based on the development and refinement of existing nutrient removal process models,...

This paper presents an incremental approach to understanding 3D structure and motion of rigid as well as nonrigid objects from image sequences. To be applicable to natural imagery like TV signals, the recovery process should meet two requirements: robustness to noise and ability of coping with deformable objects. These requirements can be met by the use of smoothness-of-motion constraint. The s...

The aim of this study consists in exploring some new ways of representing and discerning information embodied in our epistemic states. It is based on a presupposition that epistemic state is much more than just a set of propositions. It is a structured entity in which propositions are organized in a tight net of dependencies and justifications. In previous publications I have suggested to forma...

Multiple-choice tests such as the Force Concept Inventory (FCI) provide useful instruments to probe the distribution of student difficulties on a large scale. However, traditional analysis often relies solely on scores (number of students giving the correct answer). This ignores what can be significant and important information: the distribution of wrong answers given by the class. In this pape...

We examined the role of text in learning to replace science misconceptions. Undergraduates’ beliefs about where a coin falls when dropped by someone walking were assessed. A common misconception is that a coin will fall straight down, but its forward motion actually continues before it hits the ground. 135 students who expressed this misconception read one of three passages about the issue. The...

In many complex domains full scale detailed solutions to problems -plans and ways to implement them -are not possible or practical. Rather than attempt to produce such detailed solutions, we propose an alternative of using scenarios: a set of 'lsnapshots" of the future that outline possible courses of action, actions of foreign processes, and their consequences. In this paper, we present the sc...
