OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were to investigate mandibular deformation under clenching and to estimate its effect on the stability of orthodontic mini-implants (OMI). METHODS Three finite element models were constructed using computed tomography (CT) images of 3 adults with different mandibular plane angles (A, low; B, average; and C, high). An OMI was placed between #45 and #46 in each ...

BACKGROUND/AIMS The Hippo-Yap pathway is associated with tumor development and progression. However, little evidence is available concerning its role in cancer cell apoptosis and migration via mitochondrial homeostasis. Here, we identify mitochondrial fission as a regulator of the Hippo-Yap pathway in human rectal cancer tumorigenesis and metastasis. METHODS In this study, we performed loss-o...

The cellular generation of toxic metabolites and subsequent detoxification failure can cause the uncontrolled accumulation of these metabolites in cells, leading to cellular dysfunction. Amyloid-beta protein (Abeta), a normal metabolite of neurons, tends to form toxic oligomeric structures that cause neurodegeneration. It is unclear how healthy neurons control the levels of intracellular oligom...

We present a new strategy, called dual-template docking oriented molecular imprinting (DTD-OMI), for facile and highly efficient imprinting within mesoporous materials. As compared with bulk imprinting, which is a widely used strategy, DTD-OMI did not require additional steps, but provided significantly improved imprinting efficiency and binding properties.

OMI/HIC is a point-to-point link technology under development. It has a exible packet format and supports ow control, which makes OMI/HIC usable as an alternative physical layer for other higher level protocols, like SCI and ATM. Routing chips with advanced routing strategies are made, and these routing chips are useful building blocks for larger switches for point to point links.

We present an algorithm for the retrieval of glyoxal from backscattered solar radiation, and apply it to spectra measured by the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI). The algorithm is based on direct spectrum fitting, and adopts a two-step fitting routine to account for liquid water absorption. Previous studies have shown that glyoxal retrieval algorithms are highly sensitive to the position of th...

We present a new algorithm for the near-real time retrieval – within 3 h of the actual satellite measurement – of tropospheric NO2 columns from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI). The retrieval is based on the combined retrieval-assimilation-modelling approach developed at KNMI for off-line tropospheric NO2 from the GOME and SCIAMACHY satellite instruments. We have adapted the off-line syste...

Introduction The Netherlands are actively involved in atmospheric composition measurements from space since 1995 with measurements from the GOME, sCIAMAChY and OMI satellite instruments. The MetOp satellite series with GOME-2 onboard will continue these measurements until 2020, thereby providing an important global climate data record. KNMI plays an active and often leading role in the analysis...

Background Feature-tracking cardiovascular magnetic resonance (FTCMR) provides quantification of myocardial strain by analyzing cine MR images. A previous study has reported that CS measured by FT-CMR showed reasonable agreement with tagged MR in healthy volunteers. However, the usefulness of FT-CMR in patients with old myocardial infarction (OMI) has not been investigated. The purpose of this ...

Preface Background The Ozone Monitoring Instrument OMI is a Dutch-Finnish ozone monitoring instrument that will fly on NASA's Aura Mission, part of the Earth Observation System (EOS), scheduled for launch in January 2004. OMI's measurements of ozone columns and profiles, aerosols, clouds, surface UV irradiance, and the trace gases NO 2 , SO 2 , HCHO, BrO, and OClO fit well into Aura's mission g...
