In this paper we present lazy partial evaluation (LPE), a new learning technique which is a hybrid of explanation-based generalisation (EBG) and partial evaluation (PE). LPE operates in a similar way to EBG, except that the work performed exploring failed proofs is also generalised and stored. The equivalence of the set of explored proofs to the original goal de nition allows LPE to replace (ra...

Implementations of Explanation-Based Generalization (EBG) within a logic-programming environment, as e.g. the well-known PROLOG-EBG algorithm KCMcC87], are able to generalize the proof of a goal from a deenite (i.e. Horn clause) domain theory. However, it is a fact that practical applications frequently require the enhanced ex-pressiveness of negations in rule bodies. Speciically, this is the c...

This paper presents the effect of an EBG, Electromagnetic Band-Gap, structure as the ground plane of a PIFA, Planar Inverted-F Antenna. The PIFA is a type of antenna which has been used in many communication applications. It is a medium bandwidth radiator with reduced dimensions. The EBG structures have special electromagnetic properties such as high surface impedance and suppression of propaga...

Electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures exhibit unique electromagnetic properties that have led to a wide range of applications in antenna and propagation fields [1], [2]. There are two major advantages associated with EBG ground planes. First, such structures exhibit the possibility of creating a perfect magnetic conductor (PMC) because of their in-phase reflection phase characteristics. Thi...

In the field of electromagnetic wave engineering, the recent interest is on metamaterial technology, and application of EBG (Electromagnetic Band Gap) structure utilizing this technology to noise suppression and interference control is under consideration. The point to be noted here is that EBG structure can be fabricated using conventional printed circuit board (PCB) materials and manufacturin...

A thin electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) absorber is employed to capture the 2-d image of radio-frequency (RF) power distribution. The EBG absorber consists of an array of mushroom unit cells formed on a thin dielectric substrate with a metal backplane, and lumped resistors interconnecting the surface patches of the mushrooms. Around the resonance frequency at which the EBG structure acts as a hig...

In modern printed electronics, the performances of a circuit and a device are severely deteriorated by the electromagnetic noise in the gigahertz (GHz) frequency range, such as the simultaneous switching noise and ground bounce noise. A compact and multi-stack electromagnetic bandgap (CMS-EBG) structure is proposed to suppress the electromagnetic noise over the GHz frequency range with a short ...

This paper presents microstrip array antenna integrated with novel shapes of 2D-electromagnetic band-gap structure (2DEBG). Three different shapes of 2D-EBG are used for harmonic suppression, optimizing the current distribution on the patches and decreasing the mutual coupling between array elements. As a result, the performance of the antenna array is improved. The three novel shapes of 2D-EBG...
