Oxime carbonates were found to be excellent precursors for the clean and direct generation of iminyl radicals under UV irradiation. Suitably functionalised iminyls underwent cyclisations yielding various phenanthridines and also substituted quinolines and isoquinolines. EPR and X-ray analyses of oxime carbonates provided insight into the mechanism.

The use of phenyl-2-pyridyl ketone oxime and di-2-pyridyl ketone oxime in Mn chemistry has led to hexanuclear clusters with unprecedented (Mn(II)(4)Mn(III)Mn(IV)) or extremely rare (Mn(II)Mn(III)(5) and Mn(II)(3)Mn(III)(3)) metal oxidation-state combinations and uncommon structural motifs.

In the title compound, C(9)H(11)NO(3), the oxime grouping is twisted by 12.68 (6)° with respect to the dimethoxyl-benzene ring. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into an infinite [100] chain via O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, instead of the more common oxime packing motif of dimers with an R(2) (2)(6) graph-set motif.

In the title compound, C(13)H(11)ClN(2)O(3), the nine-membered bicycle includes an oxime group having the C=N group in an E configuration. The isoxazole ring is almost planar [r.m.s. deviation = 0.0056 Å]; the dihedral angle between the isoxazole and 4-chloro-phenyl ring is 75.60 (5)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯N(isoxazole) hydrogen bonds give rise to chains running along the b axis.

The title compound, C(6)H(6)N(2)O(2), was obtained as a product of an in vitro study of the metabolism of benzofuroxan. The molecule exhibits a amphi configuration of the oxime groups C=N-OH. One oxime group is involved in the formation of a strong intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond, while another links mol-ecules into zigzag chains along the c axis via inter-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds.
