Let Λ be a set of three integers and let CΛ be the space of 2π-periodic functions with spectrum in Λ endowed with the maximum modulus norm. We isolate the maximum modulus points x of trigonometric trinomials T ∈ CΛ and prove that x is unique unless |T | has an axis of symmetry. This permits to compute the exposed and the extreme points of the unit ball of CΛ, to describe how the maximum modulus...

The results of the searches for CP non-conservation in the decays of τ leptons are presented. No evidence of violation of CP symmetry is observed neither in CLEO nor in BELLE data. Interpretation of these results is done within the framework of a model with a scalar boson exchange. Limits on the imaginary part of the coupling constant Λ, parameterizing the relative contribution of diagrams that...

An effective low energy Lagrangian density is applied to nuclear K−-dynamics. The free parameters, local s-wave couplings and SU(3)-symmetry constrained range terms are adjusted to describe elastic and inelastic K−-nucleon scattering data. The propagation and decay of the Λ(1405)-resonance and the Λ(1405)-nucleon hole state is studied self consistently with respect to the K−-propagation in isos...

We set up sum rules for heavy lambda decays in a full QCD calculation which in the heavy quark mass limit incorporates the symmetries of heavy quark effective theory. For the semileptonic Λ c decay we obtain a reasonable agreement with experiment. For the Λ b semileptonic decay we find at the zero recoil point a violation of the heavy quark symmetry of about 20%.

We set up sum rules for heavy lambda decays in a full QCD calculation which in the heavy quark mass limit incorporates the symmetries of heavy quark effective theory. For the semileptonic decay of the Λ b we find at the zero recoil point a violation of the heavy quark symmetry of more than 20%. We test the method by calculating the decay width of the semileptonic Λ c decay and obtain a reasonab...

We consider Liénard type and frequency-damped oscillator equations. Integrating factors and the associated first integrals are derived from the method to compute λ-symmetries and the associated reduction algorithm. The knowledge of a λ-symmetry of the equation permits the determination of an integrating factor or a first integral by means of coupled first-order linear systems of partial differe...

Penetration depth measurements have played a very fundamental role in the study of the gap symmetry of all unconventional superconductors. For instance, from magnetic penetration depth measurements it was first suggested the dwave symmetry for the energy gap in high critical temperature superconductors (HTSC) [1]. It is expected that, for superconducting energy gaps with nodes on the Fermi surf...

Using two different methods, we have determined the rescaling of the scalar condensate Z ≡ Z ϕ near the critical line of a 4D Ising model. Our lattice data, in agreement with previous numerical indications, support the behavior Z ϕ ∼ ln(Λ), Λ being the ultraviolet cutoff. This result is predicted in an alternative description of symmetry breaking where there are no upper bounds on the Higgs bos...

and the last two (actually Lorentz transformations already include both) can be written x → x = ∑ ν Λ μ νx ν = Λνx ν , (using the Einstein summation convention), where the matrix Λ is a real matrix satisfying the pseudoorthogonality condition ΛμνgμρΛ ρ τ = gντ , which is required so that the length of a four-vector is preserved, x′ := xxμ = x . All together, this symmetry group is called the in...

In the saddle point approximation, the Euclidean path integral for quantum gravity closely resembles a thermodynamic partition function, with the cosmological constant Λ playing the role of temperature and the “density of topologies” acting as an effective density of states. For Λ < 0, the density of topologies grows superexponentially, and the sum over topologies diverges. In thermodynamics, s...
