We report the rapid amorphization of the prototypical substituted zeolitic imidazolate framework, ZIF-8, by ball-milling. The resultant amorphous ZIF-8 (a(m)ZIF-8) possesses a continuous random network (CRN) topology with a higher density and a lower porosity than its crystalline counterpart. A decrease in thermal stability upon amorphization is also evident.

The first time-resolved in situ X-ray diffraction studies of the hydrothermal crystallisation of open-framework zinc phosphates reveal a pathway of sequential crystallisation involving formation of a metastable low dimensional chain phase before the growth of three-dimensional zeolitic architectures.

The introduction of a triazole-based ligand to the zeolitic imidazolate framework-7 via a postsynthetic ligand exchange strategy not only maintains its framework, high stability and morphology, but also provides extra uncoordinated nitrogen atoms to improve the π-π and Lewis acid-base interactions.

Cigarette production involves a number of substances and materials other than just tobacco, paper and a filter. Tobacco additives include flavorings, enhancers, humectants, sugars, and ammonium compounds. Although companies maintain that tobacco additives do not enhance smoke toxicity and do not make cigarettes more attractive or addictive, these claims are questioned by independent researchers...

Many oxides tend to form different structures (polymorphs) for small particles. High temperature oxide melt solution calorimetry has been used to measure the enthalpy as a function of polymorphism and surface area for oxides of Al, Ti, and Zr. The results confirm crossovers in polymorph stability at the nanoscale. The energies of internal and external surfaces of zeolitic silicas with open fram...
