Transcription factors are believed to play a pivotal role in the activation and fine-tuning of plant defense responses, but little is known about the exact function of individual transcription factors in this process. We analyzed the role of the IId subfamily of WRKY transcription factors in the regulation of basal resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato (Pst). The expression of four membe...

Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis viruses (TMEV) are separable into two groups based on their biological behavior: those highly virulent isolates which are unable to cause persistent infection and the less virulent isolates which regularly produce persistent central nervous system infection in mice. Two highly virulent and five less virulent TMEV were found to have the same buoyant density (1....

Periodontopathogenic bacteria are gram-negative, anaerobic or facultative organisms that exhibit various virulent factors. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcoitans and organisms belonging to the ‘red complex’ that are P. gingivalis, T. denticola, T. forsythia are secondary colonisers and appear later in biofilm formation [4]. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans is generally associated with locali...

Among the species that cause blue mold, isolates of Penicillium expansum are the most prevalent and virulent species, causing more than 50 percent of postharvest decay. We report the draft genome sequence of P. expansum R19 in order to identify fungal virulence factors and to understand the mechanism of infection.

We investigated the presence of the gene of subtilase cytotoxin (SubAB), described in certain highly virulent verocytotoxigenic E. coli strains, in isolates from Argentina and its relation with other virulence factors. The gene subA was present in eae-negative strains mostly associated with saa, vt2 and ehxA genes.

Virulent Helicobacter pylori strains which have been clinically associated with severe outcome induce increased gastric mucosal immune responses. Although several bacterial pathogenic factors have been shown to have a considerable role in H pylori infection, variability in host immune responses may also contribute to mucosal damage in H pylori associated gastritis.

The genomes of 10 Aeromonas isolates identified and designated Aeromonas hydrophila WI, Riv3, and NF1 to NF4; A. dhakensis SSU; A. jandaei Riv2; and A. caviae NM22 and NM33 were sequenced and annotated. Isolates NF1 to NF4 were from a patient with necrotizing fasciitis (NF). Two environmental isolates (Riv2 and -3) were from the river water from which the NF patient acquired the infection. Whil...

Serial passage of Cryptococcus neoformans in mice increases virulence relative to the nonpassaged line. Postpassaged lines showed no difference in the expression of most known virulence factors, with the exception that the more virulent lines had smaller capsules in vitro. These data imply that other mechanisms of virulence remain to be discovered.
