OBJECTIVE To investigate the surface morphology, structure, elemental composition, and key mechanical properties of various sizes and tempers of Australian wires. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three types of Australian wire were used: 0.016'' regular, 0.018'' regular+, and 0.018'' special+ (A.J. Wilcock, Whittlesea, Victoria, Australia). Each type of wire was subjected to scanning electron microscopy...
Evaluation of the Surface Hardness of Composite Resins before and after Polishing at Different Times
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the surface hardness of six composite resins: Revolution, Natural Flow, Fill Magic Flow, Flow-it! (flowables), Silux Plus (microfilled) and Z100 (minifilled) before and after polishing at different times. MATERIALS AND METHODS For this purpose, 240 specimens (5mm diameter, 1.4mm high) were prepared. Vickers hardness was determined before and after...
In this research, Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) on Hastelloy B-2 Superalloy was used to investigate the effect of current type on microstructure and mechanical properties of welded zone. The welding process was performed using two direct and pulsed current and with Hastelloy X filler metal. Optical Microscope (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) were used to investigate the microstruct...
Study of the Mechanical Behaviour of a Zr-Based Metallic Glass Rod Using Micro- and Nano-Indentation
The mechanical properties of a Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 metallic glass rod are investigated by Vickers microhardness and depth-sensing nanoindentation. The alloy exhibits a relatively large hardness which decreases when increasing the maximum applied load. Serrated flow is also observed during nanoindentation. Both effects are related to deformationinduced mechanical softening.
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was the characterization of mechanical properties of representative types of orthodontic wires employing instrumented indentation testing (IIT) according to ISO 14577. METHODS Segments were cut from ten wires. The first six are made of stainless steel (SS), two are made of Ni-Ti, and the last two are made of titanium molybdenum alloys (TMA). Then, the Martens ...
