[Purpose] The aim of current study was to investigate the effect of external cues using vibratory stimulation on spatiotemporal gait parameters in patients with chronic stroke. [Subjects] Thirty patients, who had suffered a stroke, were selected from general hospitals in Seoul, Republic of Korea. [Methods] Each participant was subjected to six walking trials: three trials with vibratory stimula...

We investigated the effects of forearm flexor/extensor muscles vibration on corticospinal excitability by means of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in healthy subjects. Motor evoked potentials (MEPs) and ongoing baseline activity of forearm flexor and extensor muscles were analyzed during muscle activity increase produced by vibration of these muscles (Tonic Vibratory Reflex) and by anta...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS The aim of the study was to present the development of a miniature laser projection endoscope and to quantify vocal fold length and vibratory amplitude of the pediatric glottis using high-speed digital imaging coupled with the laser endoscope. STUDY DESIGN For this prospective study, absolute measurement of entire vocal fold length, membranous length of the vocal fold, a...

Plants limit the range of insect substrate-borne vibratory communication by their architecture and mechanical properties that change transmitted signal time, amplitude and frequency characteristics. Stinkbugs gain higher signal-to-noise ratio and increase communication distance by emitting narrowband low frequency vibratory signals that are tuned with transmission properties of plants. The obje...

The physiology of the vibratory mechanism in alaryngeal tracheoesophageal speech depends on several factors. The structure and resulting function of the neoglottis (or neopharynx) varies from patient to patient depending on the individual details of the surgical procedure performed, as well as the patient's anatomy. In general, the vibratory segment is a blending of the pharyngeal constrictor m...

BACKGROUND Whole body vibration (WBV) exercise has been used in health sciences. Authors have reported that changes on the concentration of plasma biomarkers could be associated with the WBV effects. The aim of this investigation is to assess the consequences of exposition of 25 Hz mechanical vibration generated in oscillating/vibratory platform (OVP) on the concentration of some plasma biomark...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Demonstrate that biofilm formation will be reduced on tracheoesophageal prostheses when vibratory stimulus is applied, compared to controls receiving no vibratory stimulus, in a dynamic in vitro model of biofilm accumulation simulating the interface across the tracheoesophageal puncture site. STUDY DESIGN Prospective, randomized, controlled, crossover in university labor...

We present two oscillation control algorithms for resonant sensors such as vibratory gyroscopes. One control algorithm tracks the resonant frequency of the resonator and the other algorithm tunes it to the specified resonant frequency by altering the resonator dynamics. Both algorithms maintain the specified amplitude of oscillations. The stability of each of the control systems is analyzed usi...

Four cases of apparently voluntary rapid vibratory pacifier movements occurring in normal, unstressed infants up to 1 year of age and captured on video are presented. I speculate on the possible relationship of the movements to similar vibratory jaw movements in dogs, in which species they may represent a neuromuscular mechanism for rapid feedback control.
