Abstract Common vetch ( Vicia sativa subsp. L.) is a self‐pollinating annual forage legume with high nutritional value. However, pod shattering can cause severe yield loss at maturity and therefore significant trait for crop improvement. Our previous studies indicated that the ventral suture critical to in common vetch. To better understand anatomy of suture, we evaluated eight shatter‐suscepti...

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is an enzyme, playing an important role in the redox metabolism of all aerobic cells. It was reported that certain medications, fava beans, and infections can trigger acute hemolytic anemia in patients with G6PD deficiency. An 8-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital with blood in the urine, headache, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and...

Cover crop benefits include nitrogen accumulation and retention, weed suppression, organic matter maintenance, and reduced erosion. Organic farmers need region-specific information on winter cover crop performance to effectively integrate cover crops into their crop rotations. Our research objective was to compare cover crop seeding mixtures, planting dates, and termination dates on performance...

The yield and quality of crop mixtures depend on natural agrotechnical factors their relationships. This research aimed to analyze the grain yield, its components total protein content organically grown oat–vetch mixture two different soils depending oat cultivar. three-year field experiment with rotations was carried out. set up in southern Poland soils: Stagnic Luvisol (S.L.) Haplic Cambisol ...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the interaction effects winter cover crops (hairy vetch, subclover and black oat) a bare soil, crop biomass management (incorporated into soil or left on surface as death mulch), nitrogen (N) fertilization level (0, 75 150 kg ha−1 N) fruit yield quality parameters processing tomato. Hairy vetch residues increased (+57%), color index (+8%) sugar/acidity ...

Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the nutritional value of bitter vetch. Experiment 1 was conducted to determine the metabolisable energy content of bitter vetch. Sixteen adult Leghorn roosters were used. Forty grams of bitter vetch were precision-fed individually to 12 roosters. In addition, 4 birds were not fed and served as a control treatment in the measurement of metabolic fecal...

This experiment was designed to evaluate the effects of the processing method of common vetch seed (CVS) (Vicia sativa) on laying performance, egg quality, metabolic parameters and liver histopatology during the peak production period in hens. Lohman layers, 46 wk of age in 6 replicate cages each containing 4 hens, were allocated randomly to one of four dietary treatments. Diets were control (C...

Cover crops (CC) are an important low-input strategy in sustainable agricultural systems. The impact of different CC (common vetch, field pea, winter oats, fodder kale, common vetch + oats and pea oats), organic mulch, control treatment-fallow, bio-fertilizer (BF) application, on yield quality sweet maize kernel was evaluated. biomass higher mixtures: as well kale. Severe violet root rot occurred in a field of membranous milk vetch in Bonghwa, Korea, in October 2010. Two fungal isolates from the diseased plants were identified as Helicobasidium mompa based on their morphological, cultural, and molecular characteristics. This is the first report that H. mompa causes violet root rot on membranous milk vetch in Korea.

The activity of cathepsin D inhibitor is markedly higher in common vetch seed coat than in embryo cotyledons. The occurrence of considerable amounts of the inhibitor in the seed coat of vetch was confirmed by the fluorescent microscopic technique, with the use of fluorescein-marked cathepsin D.
