Susceptible corn roots exposed to the host-selective toxin of Helminthosporium carbonum took up and retained more NO(3) (-), Na(+), Cl(-), 3-o-methylglucose, and leucine than did control roots. Stimulatory effects on uptake were more pronounced with freshly cut roots than with roots that were washed and aged. Solutes were accumulated against a concentration gradient, and toxin-treated tissues d...

Since the association was first recognized by Barua and Paguio in 1977, many investigators have confirmed a strong link between cholera and the human blood group O phenotype. Although the blood type O does not affect the risk of being infected with Vibrio cholerae, it has a tremendous impact on disease severity. For example, when cholera was introduced into Peru in 1991, individuals with blood ...

Treatment of isolated hepatocyte plasma membranes with cholera toxin caused the ADP-ribosylation of a variety of proteins, including a-G, [ 1x1. The ribosylation o f one of these, a 25 kDa protein is attenuated by the addition of insulin [ 181. This led us to suggest that a cholera toxin-sensitive G-protein may be involved in mediating certain of insulin's actions. In support of this, we have s...

Biological efficacy of rapeseed spray oil against twospotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) on cucumber, against European red mite [Panonychus ulmi (Koch)] on apple, green peach aphid (Myzus persicae Sulzer) on pepper and pear psylla [Cacopsylla pyri (L.)] was evaluated in seven field and three greenhouse trials at eight localities in Serbia during 2005-2008. The efficacy of rapeseed sp...

Ophiostoma novo-ulmi continues to be one of the most dangerous invasive fungi, destroying many autochthonous elm forests and cultures throughout world. Searching for natural genotypes tolerant Dutch disease (DED) is main objectives silviculturists all over northern hemisphere in order save susceptible elms restore their ecosystem biodiversity. In this regard, first trial was established between...

Chronic activation of mu-opioid receptors, which couple to pertussis toxin-sensitive Gai/o proteins to inhibit adenylyl cyclase (AC), leads to a compensatory sensitization of AC. Pertussis toxin-insensitive mutations of Gai/o subtypes, in which the pertussis toxin-sensitive cysteine is mutated to isoleucine (Ga i=o), were used to determine whether each of the Gai/o subtypes is able to mediate s...

In this study, four specimens belonging to Karaj mycoflora were examined. According to the results, two form – species; Diplosporonema delastrei, on Silene latifolia subsp. persica and Piggotia ulmi, on Ulmus sp. are reported with new names. For some of the identified fungal specimens, new hosts (matrix nova) are introduced. Moreover, many taxa such as , Marssonina kriegeriana on Salix sp.,  Se...

The calmodulin content of the yeast and mycelial phases of Ceratocystis ulmi was determined by radioimmunoassay. Calmodulin levels increased at the G1-S boundary of the cell cycle, coinciding with the first visible appearance of buds or germ tubes. However, in both phases the cellular calmodulin levels were equivalent. No differential synthesis was observed.
