Updating the structural model of complex structures is time-consuming due to the large size of the finite element model (FEM). Using conventional methods for these cases is computationally expensive or even impossible. A two-level method, which combined the Kriging predictor and the component mode synthesis (CMS) technique, was proposed to ensure the successful implementing of FEM updating of l...

This paper reformulates a time-discontinuous finite element method (TD-FEM) based on a new class of shape functions, called complex Fourier hereafter, for solving two-dimensional elastodynamic problems. These shape functions, which are derived from their corresponding radial basis functions, have some advantages such as the satisfaction of exponential and trigonometric function fields in comple...

Global and local oscillations in the CO oxidation reaction have been visualized in situ on the apex of a [100]-oriented Pt field emitter tip used as a well-defined model for catalytically active, nm-sized particles by Field Emission (FEM) and Lithium Field Desorption (Li-FDM) Microscopes. For the first time experimental evidence is provided that the reconstruction feedback mechanism of the self...

− We study the behavior of Rogowski coils coupled with bar conductors under quasi-static conditions. Through a finite element (FEM) analysis, we estimate the current distribution across the bar and the flux linked by the transducer for various positions of the primary conductor and for various operating frequencies. Simulation and experimental results are reported in the text.

SUMMARY The purpose of this paper is to present a nearly optimal preconditioned iterative method to solve indeenite linear systems of equations arising from h-adaptive procedures for the symmetric coupling of Finite Elements and Boundary Elements. This solver is nearly optimal in the sense, that its convergence rate grows only logarithmically with the number of unknowns. The algorithm is based ...

A space-time finite element method employing discontinuous Galerkin approach, for dynamic molecular simulations is proposed. In our approach, a small region of the domain is simulated using fine scale space-time FEM and it is coupled with a coarse scale simulation which employs enriched space-time FEM. The developed approach is motivated by the needs to understand the mechanics and physics that...

This paper compares the hybrid FEM-BEM and FEM-DBCI methods for the solution of openboundary electrostatic field problems. Both methods couple a differential equation for the interior problem with an integral equation for the exterior one. The comparison shows that FEM-BEM is more accurate than FEM-DBCI but requires more computing time. PACS. 41.20.Cv Electrostatics; Poisson and Laplace equatio...

This paper examines the hydroelastic response of a monopile structure, supporting an offshore wind turbine. A new numerical simulation tool is presented, coupling nonlinear potential flow solver to structural model based on modal superposition. The hydrodynamic Weak-Scatterer (WS) approach and assumes small perturbations incident flow. finite element method (FEM) used compute parameters, which ...

The finite element methods (FEM) are important techniques in engineering for solving partial differential equations, but they depend heavily on element shape quality for stability and good performance. In this paper, we introduce the Adaptive Extended Stencil Finite Element Method (AES-FEM) as a means for overcoming this dependence on element shape quality. Our method replaces the traditional b...

The brushless synchronous generator (SG) excitation system consists of a main exciter, permanent magnet (PMG) consequent rotor poles type, and an automatic voltage regulator (AVR). Both exciter machines have been properly designed analysed. performances are obtained by time stepping finite-element method (FEM) coupled with the external electrical circuit. An experimental machine is built measur...
