We describe a 42-year old woman with inactive systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) at the time of her visit. She presented with an atypical movement disorder and partial continuous epilepsy. A brain biopsy excluded cerebral vasculitis and tumoral processes. We discuss the differential diagnosis of status epilepticus in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus.
Cardiac involvement is fairly common in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It may involve all layers of the heart and coronary arteries as well as the heart valves. We report an extremely rare presentation of valvulitis and valvular dysfunction associated with systemic lupus erythematosus. This is the first case of lupus valvulitis which required three mechanical prosthetic valve...
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by auto antibodies directed against self-antigens, immune complex formation and immune deregulations and may affect joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, nervous system, and immune system. The onset can be variable and the symptoms can occur for many years. Parotitis as the initial manifestation of systemic lupus erythemat...
The development of systemic lupus erythematosus has a strong genetic basis. The techniques to study the genetics of SLE have improved, and family-based studies have been gaining importance due to advances in the human genome project. Recently, complete genome scans with microsatellite markers and linkage analysis have been performed in human systemic lupus erythematosus in various populations. ...
Hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is an uncommon manifestation in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Clinical features of HPS include fever, pancytopenia, abnormal liver enzyme, hepatosplenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, and coagulation disorder. HPS comprises primary and reactive forms. Herein, we describe a case of untreated SLE with HPS as one of the first manifestations of systemic Lupus.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that involves multiple organs and has alternating periods of flare-ups and quiescence. SLE requires multiple paraclinical and therapeutic investigations that are not accessible by Malagasy patients. We aim to assess the monthly direct cost in SLE referring to international recommendations. The cost of paraclinical exams and trea...
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic autoimmune disease which is classically characterised by a variety of autoantibodies to deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), other nuclear and cytoplasmic antigens. Recently several novel autoantibodies against a variety of specific nuclear pore proteins have been described, including the nucleoporin p62. In this paper we evaluate...
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with a wide spectrum of expression, aberrant host innate and adaptive immune response, chronic inflammation.
Mycosis is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and frequent exposition to an infectious source could enhance the development of dermatophytic infections. A case of disseminated dermatophytosis by Microsporum gypseum is reported in a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patient.
Definiton Lupus erythematosus (LE) is an autoimmune disorder, in which the body's own immune system attacks its own tissues, especially components of the cellular nuclei. Lupus is the latin for wolf and erythematosus indicates red-like. Thus, LE stands for ”the red wolf” which should be in contrast to lupus vulgaris, ”the common wolf” which in the old days designated the skin of the face in pat...
