in this paper, gaussian and elliptic high pass filters are analyzed for image sharpening qualitatively and quantatively . the filters are implemented in frequency domain using matlab software. experiments are performed to compare the performance of both the filters ,processed images are presented. the results demonstrate that elliptic yields better results.
Thermal infrared (TIR) imagery is normally acquired at coarser pixel resolution than that of shortwave sensors on the same satellite platform and often the TIR resolution is not suitable for monitoring crop conditions of individual fields or the impacts of land cover changes that are at significantly finer spatial scales. Consequently, thermal sharpening techniques have been developed to sharpe...
In this chapter, different approaches to image fusion for pan-sharpening of multispectral images are presented and critically compared. Particular emphasis is devoted to the advantages resulting from defining pan-sharpening as an optimisation problem. Implementation issues are also considered and extensive results in terms of quality of the fused products, both visual and objective, and computa...
Sharpening filters are used to highlight fine image details, including object edges. However, sharpening very specific different types of images as they may create undesired edge effects, over-highlight or emphasize noise. Laplacian, Laplacian Gaussian, high-boost, unsharp masking filters, and their extended algorithms among most widely spatial filters. This paper introduces a method that integ...
In real time remote sensing it is necessary to know the quality of images obtained from the different satellite sensors. Pan-sharpening enhances the spatial information of input raw multispectral images. This paper focuses on the evaluation and analysis of eight frequently used image quality assessment methods to determine the preservation of spectral and spatial integrity in the pan-sharpened ...
A homeostatic rule for inhibitory synapses promotes temporal sharpening and cortical reorganization.
Experience with transient stimuli leads to stronger neural responses that also rise and fall more sharply in time. This sharpening enhances the processing of transients and may be especially relevant for speech perception. We consider a learning rule for inhibitory connections that promotes this sharpening effect by adjusting these connections to maintain a target homeostatic level of activity ...
