Background: Staphylococcus lugdunensis is Gram-positive cocci of the staphylococcaceae family. S. lugdunensis despite having a clotting factor (wall coagulase), was classified in the coagulase negative staphylococcus group (CoNS) for lack of free coagulase. Although this bacterium is part of the human normal flora, in terms of virulence, S. lugdunensis is in second place after S. aureus. S. lug...

conclusions methicillin resistance is a specialized concern in clinical studies, and it is mandatory to detect this mechanism by an accurate method that is updated periodically. increasing the resistance of s. aureus to multiple antibiotics underlines the need for intermittent resistance surveillance. results methicillin resistance was detected in 38% of s. aureus isolates, confirmed by the aga...

Five groups of strains of Staphylococcus aureus (54 in total) were tested by slide and tube coagulase methods with rabbit and human plasma, and the results were compared with a latex test for both clumping factor and Protein A (Staphaurex, Wellcome Foundation). The five groups comprised: epidemic methicillin resistant S aureus (group 1); other methicillin resistant S aureus (group 2); other res...

Objective: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) widely distributed in hospitals around the world. There is strong relationship between disease development and S. aureus nasal carriage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and epidemiology of nasal colonization with S. aureus and MRSA in the community of Duhok city, Iraq. Methods: 489 students aged 16 to18 years wer...

This hospital-based study describes the antibiotic sensitivity of 66 S. aureus isolates from the admitted children (age 0-18 y) in a tertiary hospital of Kolkata, India. Methicillin-resistant S. aureus constituted 16.7% (n=11) of the isolates. Clindamycin-resistance was observed in 60% and 82% of methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant strains, respectively.

BACKGROUND Staphylococcus aureus is an important pathogen in paediatric patients with bloodstream infections. The epidemiology of S. aureus bacteraemia, however, has not been well documented in children in South Africa. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted at a children's hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, to investigate the epidemiology of S. aureus bacteraemia from 2007-2011. The i...

Background: Treatment of bacterial diseases by synthetic antibiotics leads to problems such as side effects in human and antibiotic resistance in microorganisms. Recently, plants have been given more attention in curing bacterial diseases. Since the use of Thymbra spicata is common in Iranian ancient medicine, this study tried to investigate the antibacterial effects of the extract of Thymbra...

background and objective: staphylococcus aureus is an important infection in hemodialysis patients. we studied the prevalence of nasal carriage of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (mrsa) and its antibiotic resistance pattern in patients receiving hemodialysis as well as in dialysis unit staff. materials and methods: from june to september 2012, we evaluated 74 cases including 61 pati...

BACKGROUND Staphylococcus aureus is a common and significant pathogen in cystic fibrosis. We sought to determine if quantitative PCR (qPCR) and 16S rRNA gene sequencing could provide a rapid, culture-independent approach to the identification of S. aureus airway infections. METHODS We examined the sensitivity and specificity of two qPCR assays, targeting the femA and 16S rRNA gene, using cult...
