This paper exploits how Bayesian learning of restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM) can discover more biologically-resembled early visual features. The study is mainly motivated by the sparsity and selectivity of visual neurons’ activations in V1 area. Most previous work of computational modeling emphasize selectivity and sparsity independently, which neglects the underlying connections between the...

Using the ARGUS detector at the e+e storage ring DORIS II, we have measured the Michel parameters , , and for ! l decays in -pair events produced at center of mass energies in the region of the resonances. Using ! as spin analyzing tags, we nd e = 0:68 0:04 0:08, e = 1:12 0:20 0:09, e = 0:57 0:14 0:07, = 0:69 0:06 0:08, = 1:25 0:27 0:14 and = 0:72 0:18 0:10. In addition, we report the combine...

In the presence of nuisance parameters, we derive an explicit higher order asymptotic formula to compare the expected lengths of conndence intervals given by likelihood ratio statistics arising from the usual proole likelihood and various adjustments thereof. Highest posterior density regions, with approximate frequentist validity, are also included in the study.

A central goal in sensory neuroscience is to fully characterize a neuron's input-output relation. However, strong nonlinearities in the responses of sensory neurons have made it difficult to develop models that generalize to arbitrary stimuli. Typically, the standard linear-nonlinear models break down when neurons exhibit stimulus-dependent modulations of their gain or selectivity. We studied t...

The design, planning and deployment of LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Service) systems require a good understanding of radio wave propagation. After a presentation of the different propagation mechanisms , we present the propagation channel characteristics: attenuation, variability and frequency selectivity due to multi-path; the selectivity being defined from wideband parameters such as d...

Studies of lipid interactions with membranous Na,K-ATPase by using electron spin resonance spectroscopy in conjunction with spin-labelled lipids are reviewed. The lipid stoichiometry, selectivity and exchange dynamics at the lipid-protein interface can be determined, in addition to information on the configuration and rotational dynamics of the protein-associated lipid chains. These parameters,...

A spectral mapping technique (SPM) was employed for separating the strength and selectivity of the retention of 41 barbituric acid derivatives and 5 organic modifiers on a porous graphitized carbon column (PGC). The potency values calculated by SPM were considered to be indicators of the capacity of drugs to bind to the surface of PGC and the capacity of organic modifiers to remove the drugs fr...

We report herein a palladium-catalyzed C-H arylation of quinoline N-oxides that proceeds with high selectivity in favor of the C8-isomer. This site-selectivity is unusual for palladium, since all of the hitherto described methods of palladium-catalyzed C-H functionalization of quinoline N-oxides are highly C2-selective. The reaction exhibits a broad synthetic scope with respect to quinoline N-o...

In functional electrical stimulation, selective stimulation of axons is desirable to activate a specific target, in particular muscular function. This implies to simulate a fascicule without activating neighboring ones i.e. to be spatially selective. Spatial selectivity is achieved by the use of multicontact cuff electrodes over which the stimulation current is distributed. Because of the large...

We demonstrate the role of selectivity variation in the structure of the nonequilibrium extended space charge using one-dimensional analytic and two-dimensional numerical Poisson-Nernst-Planck models for the electro-diffusive transport of a symmetric electrolyte. This provides a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanism behind a previously observed maximum in the resistance-voltage curve...
