This feature issue of Applied Optics contains 25 research papers on photon correlation and scattering. Many of the papers in this volume were presented at an OSA Topical Meeting that was held 21-24 August 1996 in Capri, Italy. The focus of these papers is research in dynamic light scattering, surface light scattering, photon correlation, laser velocimetry, and their applications to biological, ...
We calculated the contribution of the photon hadronic component in the charmed structure function of the leptoproduction. The contribution comes from scattering of the c quarks of the virtual photon on the quarks and gluons of the proton. Comparison of our calculations with the measurements of the charm production in µ + p-scattering by EMC shows, that contribution of resolved photon can explai...
We computed twist-4 part of the photon spin-flip amplitude in deeply virtual Compton scattering on a nucleon in the Wandzura-Wilczek approximation. We found a factorizable contribution, which arises from photon scattering on quarks with non-zero angular momentum along the collision axis. As the genuine twist-2 amplitude arises at the NLO, for moderate virtualities of the hard photon, Q2 ≤ 10 Ge...

Birefringence phenomena stemming from vacuum polarization are revisited in the framework of coherent scattering. Based on photon-photon scattering, our analysis brings out the direct connection between this process and vacuum birefringence. We show how this procedure can be extended to the Kerr and the Cotton-Mouton birefringences in vacuum, thus providing a unified treatment of various polariz...
The dressed K-matrix model, developed previously for lowand intermediate-energy Compton scattering, is generalized to calculate the photon-nucleon vertex with a virtual photon and an off-shell nucleon. This model was used to compute the ratio of the proton electromagnetic form factors. The calculated ratio is in excellent agreement with the ratio measured in polarized electron-proton scattering.
Photon–photon scattering in vacuum due to the interaction with virtual electron-positron pairs is a consequence of quantum electrodynamics. A way for detecting this phenomenon has been devised based on interacting modes generated in microwave waveguides or cavities [G. Brodin, M. Marklund and L. Stenflo, Phys. Rev. Lett. 87 171801 (2001)]. Here we materialize these ideas, suggest a concrete cav...
I clarify the mistakes in hep-ph/9705427 (Remarks on the kinematics of the one-photon production in electron-proton scattering) about the phase space factor for the one-photon production in electronproton scattering and confirm that the earlier result given by Kroll, Schürmann and Guichon is right.
The general form of the cross section as well as the polarizations of electron-deuteron elastic scattering are given. Two-photon exchange effects are analyzed. Possible signatures of the two-photon exchange effects in the electron-deuteron elastic scattering are discussed. PACS: 13.40.GP, 25.30.-c, 25.30.Bf, 24.70.+s, 13.60.Fz
