Kinetic behaviour of three samples of samarium oxide (cubic (Sm-1 ), monoclinic (Sm-3) and mixed cubic-monoclinic (Sm 2) ) were studied in the oxidative coupling of methane using a gradientless flow circulation system. The specific rate of C2product formation differed by a factor of 6-8 for Sm-1 and Sm-3. The specific activity for CO formation did not depend upon the crystal structure of samari...

This paper deals with the synthesis and characterization of a glimepiride-samarium complex a rare earth’s metal. Glimepiride is an oral hypoglycemic agent. The conductometric titrations were conducted using monovariation method which shows the ligand metal ratio as 2:1. Molar conductance value indicate that complex is non-ionic in nature. Analytical results agree to the molecular formula (C24H3...

Resonant absorption can be used as a filter for high energy neutron spectroscopy. Here we report the transmission of eight thin foil filters: erbium, indium, iridium, dysprosium, hafnium, gadolinium, cadmium and samarium, measured using neutron time-of-flight techniques over a range of energies (1 meV to 10 eV). Measured transmission is converted into energy-dependent absorption cross-section w...

Bone metastases are prevalent among cancer patients and frequently cause significant morbidity. Oncology providers must mitigate complications associated with bone metastases while limiting therapy-related adverse effects and their impact on quality of life. Multiple treatment modalities, including chemotherapy, surgery, external beam radiation therapy, and radioisotopes, among others, have bee...

the effectiveness of an intervention against cancer cells compared to normal tissue. Although chemotherapy and radiation are common and effective treatment modalities for skeletal neoplasia (1), bone-seeking radioisotopes offer a new opportunity to provide additional benefit via specific targeting of the skeleton and/or bone-forming lesions (e.g. osteoblastic metastases in the skeleton, marrow,...

We found that dodecatungstophosphoric acid (H(3)PW(12)O40), samarium and ruthenium(III) chloride act as efficient catalysts for synthesis of unsaturated 2-phenyl-5(4H)oxazolone derivatives under solvent-free conditions. The key features of the reported protocols are short reaction times, high yields of products, ambient conditions and simple workup.

This paper presents the chemical and physical characterizations of SiO 2 and SiO 2 -CaO bioactive glasses incorporated with samarium atoms, produced by sol-gel synthesis. The objective is to provide biocompatible and biodegradable radioactive seeds as an alternative to be used in Brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer. The glasses were produced and analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spe...
