Coleman’s theory of p-adic integration figures prominently in several number-theoretic applications, such as finding torsion and rational points on curves, and computing p-adic regulators in K-theory (including p-adic heights on elliptic curves). We describe an algorithm for computing Coleman integrals on hyperelliptic curves, and its implementation in Sage.

In this paper we introduce p-adic continued fractions and its application to quasi-periodic dynamical systems. Investigating the recurrent properties of its orbits, we use the lattice theory, which has direct applications to cryptography. At last we show some numerical calculations of p-adic continued fractions and Gauss reduction algorithm by using the open source software Sage.

Learning hierarchical concepts is a central problem in cognitive science. This paper explores the Nearest-Merge algorithm for creating hierarchical clusters that can handle both feature-based and relational information, building on the SAGE model of analogical generalization. We describe its results on three data sets, showing that it provides reasonable fits with human data and comparable resu...

In this paper we will first introduce the singular value decomposition (SVD) of a matrix and basic theory behind it. We will then go over the general algorithm, along with implementations in SAGE and computational efficiency comparisons with built in libraries. At the end we will discuss principal component analysis and its relation with the SVD as one of many applications.

We have analyzed the pattern of gene expression in human primary CD34(+) stem/progenitor cells. We identified 42,399 unique serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) tags among 106,021 SAGE tags collected from 2.5 x 10(6) CD34(+) cells purified from bone marrow. Of these unique SAGE tags, 21,546 matched known expressed sequences, including 3,687 known genes, and 20,854 were novel without a matc...

The SAGE (serial analysis of gene expression) method is sensitive at detecting the lower abundance transcripts. More than a third of human SAGE tags identified are novel representing the low abundance unknown transcripts. Using the GLGI method (generation of longer 3' EST from SAGE tag for gene identification), we converted 1009 low-copy, human X chromosome-specific SAGE tags into 10210 3' ESTs...

MOTIVATION Sequencing errors may bias the gene expression measurements made by Serial Analysis of Gene Expression (SAGE). They may introduce non-existent tags at low abundance and decrease the real abundance of other tags. These effects are increased in the longer tags generated in LongSAGE libraries. Current sequencing technology generates quite accurate estimates of sequencing error rates. He...

Background: Common sage (Salvia officinalis) is a popular culinary and medicinal herb. A literature survey has revealed that sage oils can vary widely in their chemical compositions. The purpose of this study was to examine sage essential oil from different sources/origins and to define the possible chemotypes of sage oil. Methods: Three different samples of sage leaf essential oil have been ob...

BACKGROUND The efficacy of many preparations for topical use in herpes infections have remained rather disappointing. The development of new antiviral drugs, especially herbal preparations, thus remains desirable. In a screening study with plant extracts, a rhubarb root extract and a sage extract showed a promising activity. OBJECTIVE The efficacy of a combined topical preparation with rhubar...

background: the aim of this study was to examine the renoprotective effect of hydro alcoholic sage (salvia officinalis: so) leaves extract against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. methods: in this experimental study forty male sprague dawley rats weighing 200-300 g were randomly divided into 5 groups; (1) the rats without treatment (control), (2) intraperitoneally injected with normal...
