We consider constrained optimization problems defined in the tropical algebra setting on a linearly ordered, algebraically complete (radicable) idempotent semifield (a semiring with addition and invertible multiplication). The are to minimize objective functions given by analogues of multivariate Puiseux polynomials, subject box constraints variables. A technique for variable elimination is pre...

The change-point detection problem is cast into a delay estimation. Using a local piecewise polynomial representation and some elementary algebraic manipulations, we give an explicit characterization of a change-point as a solution of a given polynomial equation. A key feature of this polynomial equation is its coefficients being composed by short time window iterated integrals of the noisy sig...

In this paper, the notions of pseudofield of values and joint pseudofield of values of matrix polynomials are introduced and some of their algebraic and geometrical properties are studied.  Moreover, the relationship between the pseudofield of values of a matrix polynomial and the pseudofield of values of its companion linearization is stated, and then some properties of the augmented field of ...

The aim of this paper is to present algebraic method which is called Wu's method to solving fuzzy complex systems of linear equations. Wu's method is used as a solution procedure for solving the crisp polynomial equations system. This algorithm leads to solving characteristic sets that are amenable to easy solution. To illustrate the easy application of the proposed method, numerical examples a...

We discuss existence of explicit search bounds for zeros of polynomials with coefficients in a number field. Our main result is a theorem about the existence of polynomial zeros of small height over the field of algebraic numbers outside of unions of subspaces. All bounds on the height are explicit.

E. Sontag has introduced the concept of algebraic observability for n-dimensional polynomial systems. It is a stronger notion than the usual concept of observability and implies the existence of a polynomial expression of the state variables in terms of a finite number of derivatives of the output function. We prove that algebraic observability is a generic property for polynomial systems of bo...

In this paper, the Ritz-Galerkin method in Bernstein polynomial basis is applied for solving the nonlinear problem of the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of third grade fluid between the two plates. The properties of the Bernstein  polynomials together with the Ritz-Galerkin method are used to reduce the solution of the MHD Couette flow of non-Newtonian fluid in a porous medium to the solution o...

We give a polynomial time attack on the McEliece public key cryptosystem based on subcodes of algebraic geometry (AG) codes. The proposed attack reposes on the distinguishability of such codes from random codes using the Schur product. Wieschebrink treated the genus zero case a few years ago but his approach cannot be extent straightforwardly to other genera. We address this problem by introduc...

Motivated by Wilmshurst’s conjecture, we investigate the zeros of harmonic polynomials. We utilize a certified counting approach which is a combination of two methods from numerical algebraic geometry: numerical polynomial homotopy continuation to compute a numerical approximation of each zero and Smale’s alpha-theory to certify the results. Using this approach, we provide new examples of harmo...
