In this paper, we present a new algorithm for computing in a very efficient way the real intersection of three quadric surfaces. Our approach is based on the cylindrical decomposition ([4]) and the TOP algorithm ([10]) for analyzing the topology of a planar curve. We preform a symbolic pre-processing that allows us later to execute all numerical computations in a very accurate way.

Composites were fabricated by infiltration of molten Al–13Si–9Mg into porous SiC derived from wood. The composite microstructure retains the heterogeneous orthorhombic symmetry of the initial wood material. This work shows how inline metrology can contribute to a feasible production of composite parts. We report on the optical spectroscopy of monolithic fiber preform prepared from nanoporous bismuth-doped silica glass. The experiments reveal the existence of at least two different types of active centers and clearly demonstrate that the presence in the glass matrix of other dopant is not necessary to obtain the near-IR photoluminescence connected to Bismuth.
