We allow a more general (step-function) form of the primordial power spectrum than the usual featureless power-law Harrison–Zeldovich (with spectral index n = 1) power spectrum, and fit it to the latest Cosmic Microwave Background data sets. Although the best-fitting initial power spectrum can differ significantly from the power-law shape, and contains a bump at scales k ∼ 0.003 hMpc, we find t...

Galaxies and galaxy clusters are observed to have a rather non-trivial radial behaviour. The observations show that the radial profiles change from one power-law profile near the centre to another power-law profile in the outer region. We present a simple explanation for this complex behaviour by finding the analytical solutions to the governing hydrodynamic equations. We see that the origin of...

political power is considered as one of the most fundamental public law vocabulary, as far as the separation of political power and public law seems impossible. meanwhile it seems that this concept as the fundamental concept of public law; varies in islamic and liberal thought and there is a serious conflict between them. analysis of this claim requires a proper understanding of the concept of ...

We summarize recent developments in the study of the origin of halo spin profiles and preliminary implications on disk formation. The specific angular-momentum distributions within halos in N-body simulations match a universal shape, M (< j) ∝ j/(j 0 +j). It is characterized by a power law over most of the mass, and one shape parameter in addition to the spin parameter λ. The angular momentum t...

The two nearby starburst galaxies M82 and NGC 253 were observed for ∼ 100 ksec over a 10-month period in 1997. An increase of the M82 flux by a factor ∼ 2 was measured during the period July-November, when compared with the flux measured earlier in 1997. The flux measured in the field centered on M82 includes ∼ 38% of the emission from the Seyfert 1 galaxy M81. The best-fitting model for the ea...

We have collected pulsar flux density observations and compiled spectra of 281 objects. The database of Lorimer et al. (1995) has been extended to frequencies higher than 1.4 GHz and lower than 300 MHz. Our results show that above 100 MHz the spectra of the majority of pulsars can be described by a simple power law with average value of spectral index < α >= −1.8 ± 0.2. A rigorous analysis of s...

AMS 1991 subject classifications: primary 62G07 secondary 62M10 Keywords: Spatial long memory Local Whittle method a b s t r a c t A local Whittle estimator is developed to simultaneously estimate the long memory parameters for stationary anisotropic scalar random fields. It is shown that these estimators are consistent and asymptotically normal, under some weak technical conditions. A brief si...

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the validity of mesoscale numerical weather prediction modeling near the complex terrain at Aubrey Cliffs, Arizona, and to investigate the influence of the outer domain size employed on the computational results. Mesoscale Modeling v5 (MM5) was implemented to produce numerical wind data that was compared with experimental wind data. The results obtain...

In this paper, the results of the first experimental investigation into sound radiation of rectangular plates containing tapered indentations of power-law profile are reported. Such tapered indentations materialise two-dimensional acoustic black holes for flexural waves in plates that result in absorption of a large proportion of the incident wave energy. A multiindentation plate was compared t...

The shock-acceleration theory predicts a power-law energy spectrum in the test particle approximation, and there are two ways to calculate a power-law index, Peacock’s approximation and Vietri’s formulation. In Peacock’s approximation, it is assumed that particles cross a shock front many times and energy-gains for each step are fully uncorrelated. On the other hand, correlation of the distribu...
