Plant extracts and isolated compounds are increasingly used in cosmetics and food supplements to improve skin conditions. We first introduce the positive plant monographs with dermatological relevance of the former German Commission E. Subsequently clinical studies with botanicals for atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, condylomata acuminata and herpes simplex are discussed. The best studies ha...

Patients with anogenital warts present the healthcare professional with two major problems—recurrence and persistence. These problems occur because of persistence of human papillomavirus in keratinocytes, defective immune responses in individuals with persistence and recurrence of warts, and the lack of specific antiviral therapy. In this article, the discussion will be confined to the manageme...

Four of five infants and young children with acute monoblastic leukemia, a disease that heretofore has been highly refractory to therapy, were successfully treated with sequential infusions of a podophyllin derivative employed as a single agent over a protracted period of time. In three of the five children, monocytic leukemia cutis was present at birth. Treatment was begun in two of them when ...

Uncontrolled trials indicate that treatment of condylomata acuminata with the carbon dioxide laser is effective and probably superior to conventional surgical treatment. We performed a controlled study of refractory condylomata acuminata to clarify whether this is the case. In this randomised trial 21 patients were treated with the carbon dioxide laser and 22 by conventional surgery after havin...

The ethanolic extract of S. robusta resin (10 and 30 % w/w applied locally in excised and incised wounds) produced a dose-dependent acceleration in wound contraction and increased hydroxyproline content and tensile strength of wounds in rats. The results demonstrate wound healing activity of ethanolic extract of S. robusta resin.

This paper reports findings of a study of a batch chemical process using simulation. A model of an alkyd resin plant is presented and used to carry out improvement studies, to evaluate changes in plant operating conditions. With the proposed changes, in the simulation studies, productivity could be improved to around ten percent. Key-Words: Monte Carlo simulation, alkyd process modeling, probab...
