High resolution, fully kinetic, three dimensional (3D) simulation of collisionless plasma turbulence shows the development of turbulence characterized by sheetlike current density structures spanning a range of scales. The nonlinear evolution is initialized with a long wavelength isotropic spectrum of fluctuations having polarizations transverse to an imposed mean magnetic field. We present evi...

It is shown that inhomogeneous heating of the dust grain by ion flow in a glow discharge results in a photophoresislike force. According to our estimations, this radiometric force can be comparably-valued with the ion-drag force under the conditions of microgravity dusty plasma experiments.

I present a novel view on the problem of solar coronal heating. In my picture, coronal heating should be viewed as a self-regulating process that works to keep the coronal plasma marginally collisionless. The self-regulating mechanism is based on the interplay between two effects: (1) Plasma density controls coronal energy release via the transition between the slow collisional Sweet-Parker reg...

Based on the concept that the heating source for Type II white-light flares (WLFs) may be located in the photosphere, we suggest that Type II WLF is reduced by magnetic reconnection in a weakly ionized plasma. A plasmoid may rise by magnetic buoyancy from the subphotosphere into a sunspot region and then expand to form a current sheet in which a type of resistive instability takes place. The ef...

A two-dimensional fluid model for a dusty argon plasma in which the plasma and dust parameters are solved self-consistently, is used to study the behavior of voids, i.e., dust-free regions inside dust clouds. These voids appear in plasma crystal experiments performed under microgravity conditions. The ion drag force turns out to be the most promising driving force behind these voids. The contri...

We report a measurement of the electron temperature in a plasma generated by a high-intensity laser focused into a jet of neon. The 15 eV electron temperature is determined using an analytic solution of the plasma equations assuming local thermodynamic equilibrium, initially developed for ultracold neutral plasmas. We show that this analysis method accurately reproduces more sophisticated plasm...

In tokamak plasmas with a tearing mode, strong scattering of high power millimeter waves, as used for heating and noninductive current drive, is shown to occur. This new wave scattering phenomenon is shown to be related to the passage of the O point of a magnetic island through the high power heating beam. The density determines the detailed phasing of the scattered radiation relative to the O-...
