Retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I), a cytosolic pattern recognition receptor (PRR), can sense various RNA viruses, including the avian influenza virus (AIV) and infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV), and trigger the innate immune response. Previous studies have shown that mammalian RIG-I (human and mice) and waterfowl RIG-I (ducks and geese) are essential for type I interferon (IFN) synthe...

Strains from a subgroup of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium frequently associated with pigeon infections were tested for genomic anomalies and virulence in mice. Some strains have a genomic inversion between rrn operons. Two prophages found in the common laboratory strain LT2 were absent. Pigeon-associated strains are still virulent in mice.

A male pigeon (Columba livia) dead with no clinical signs was investigated of having hepatitis. Light microscopy revealed intranuclear inclusion bodies, that ultrastructurally were shown to be herpesvirus-like particles. The particles were also found in the cytoplasm. These findings are consistent with previous reports of the disease in the pigeon. This is the first time the disease has been re...

Background: Birds are considered as a reservoir for pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungi. Pigeon droppings have the potential for spreading these fungi to the environment. Cryptococcus species are important fungi associated with pigeon droppings. In this regard, there are many types of yeast associated with guano that is important for human and animal health. Ai...

Two complete genome sequences of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) are described here. Virulent isolates pigeon/Pakistan/Lahore/21A/2015 and pigeon/Pakistan/Lahore/25A/2015 were obtained from racing pigeons sampled in the Pakistani province of Punjab during 2015. Phylogenetic analysis of the fusion protein genes and complete genomes classified the isolates as members of NDV class II, genotype VI.

Titres of circulating IgG antibodies to pigeon gammaglobulin and end expired carbon monoxide concentrations were measured in 86 pigeon fanciers attending the "Show of the Year." Antibody levels were significantly higher in non-smokers and in those with end expired carbon monoxide concentrations below 10 parts per million.

We see that the version of the pigeonhole principle in which every hole is forced to receive a pigeon (called onto) and the version in which every pigeon is mapped into exactly one hole (called functional) have polynomial-size proofs in the tree-like monotone sequent calculus. The proofs are surprisingly simple reductions to the non-monotone case.

Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale (ORT) is a respiratory pathogen which has been isolated throughout the world from numerous bird species. The present study was designed to isolate and characterize the ORT from domestic turkeys, quails and pigeons. For this purpose, 250 samples from each bird species (turkey, quail and pigeon) with or without respiratory signs were tested by taking of tracheal...

The aim of the study was to observe histo-pathological effects of different arthropoda, oocyste and worms infestation on the wild pigeon naturally infected. Gastro-intestinal tract associated organs were removed from the abdomen and tissue sample of 15 birds were collected and proceed in Haematoxylin and Eosin. Fresh fecal samples were examined by direct smear method whereas egg per gram (EPG) ...
