A newly prepared iminocoumarin-functionalized magnetic nanosilica (Ni@SiO(2)-1) was found to form a selective stable complex with Cu(2+) over other metal ions. Quantification of Cu(2+) ions in aqueous solution using Ni@SiO(2)-1 is demonstrated through a fluorescent demetallization ensemble process.

Fibrous nanosilica (KCC-1) oxynitrides are promising solid-base catalysts. Paradoxically, when their nitrogen content increases, their catalytic activity decreases. This counterintuitive observation is explained here for the first time using (15) N-solid-state NMR spectroscopy enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization.

An inductively coupled plasma torch (ICPT) system was used to synthesize nanosilica particles starting both from glass powders from fluorescent lamps and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as precursors. The effect of the curtain gas on nanoparticles size, morphology and composition was studied by the use of BET, SEM and EDS analysis.
