Phenol was extracted from sebacic acid wastewater (SAWW) using liquid-liquid extraction in batch as well as serial modes by applying different solvent: SAWW (1:250 5:250, v/v). Alcohols (1-hexanol, 1-heptanol, and 1-octanol), castor oil and Aliquat-336® were used for phenol extraction. In a typical extraction experiment involving shaking and allowing for phase separation, phenol (75-96%) can be...

The aim of this study was to investigate the immunomodulatory effects of the volatile oil of ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) in vitro and in vivo in mice. In vitro, the volatile oil of ginger (0.001-10 ng/mL) significantly inhibited T lymphocyte proliferation (P < 0.01), decreased the number of the total T lymphocytes and T helper cells (P < 0.01) in a concentration-dependent manner, but in...

Microwave-assisted extraction of volatile oils (MAE) potentially offers a more efficient and bio-sustainable method than conventional extraction by Clevenger apparatus (CE). This study aimed to optimise the MAE of the volatile oil from Pterodon emarginatus fruits and characterise the volatile compounds. A 2³ full-factorial central composite design and response surface methodology were used to e...

The fatty acid and volatile compound compositions of camellia oil were analyzed in this study. The impacts of the replacement of conventional vegetable oil with camellia oil on the sensory attributes of dried seaweed were also determined. C18:1 (83.59%), followed by C16:0 and C18:2, were the most abundant fatty acids in camellia oil. A total of 11 and 32 volatile compounds were identified in ca...

Trichogonia cinerea is endemic to Brazil and occurs in areas of cerrado and campo rupestre. In this study, we characterized the glandular and non-glandular trichomes on the aerial parts of this species, determined the principal events in the development of the former, and identified the main constituents of the volatile oil produced in its aerial organs. Fully expanded leaves, internodes, flore...
