LPC analysis is one of the most powerful techniques in speech analysis. Spectral zeros during consonant or consonant-vowel transition regions introduce difficulties in estimating LPC parameters. In this paper, we propose to estimate formant frequencies from LPC model by MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) and ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Techniques). Form...

We present a procedure for deciding whether two normed PA terms are bisimilar. The procedure is \elementary," having doubly exponential nondeterministic time complexity. ∗The rst author was supported in part by EPSRC Visiting Research Fellowships GR/K83243 and GR/M06468. This paper focuses on the interplay between formal interorganisational networks and personal informal networks in IT innovation. It also explores the complementarities between two theoretical perspectives of social and economic networks. The context within which this research is located is Esprit, the European Strategic Programme for Research in IT. The empirical evidence is based on a success ...

In this paper a system for storing and retrieving imaged multimedia documents by content is described. This system is being developed within the Esprit project STRETCH (STorage and RETrieval by Content of imaged documents). The core of STRETCH system is a powerful Archiving and Retrieval Engine, based on a structured document representation and capable of activating appropriate methods to chara...

We describe a new class of Support Vector algorithms for regression and classiication. In these algorithms, a parameter lets one eeectively control the number of Support Vectors. While this can be useful in its own right, the parametrization has the additional beneet of enabling us to eliminate one of the other free parameters of the algorithm: the accuracy parameter " in the regression case, a...

s: SAG~ (Sentence Analysis and GEneration system) is an operational parsing and generating system. It is used as a Natural Language Frontend for Esprit project Eeteam-316, whose purpose is to advise a novice user through a cooperative dialogue. The aim of our system is to validate the use of a Lexice)n-Grammar (drawn from the LADL studies) ior sentence-parsing and generation, and to imple~ ~aen...

This paper discusses issues in evaluating spoken language dialogue systems in terms of technical performance and end-user acceptance. Recent efforts in this domain have been carried out in the framework of two major research initiatives: the European Esprit long-term project Spoken Language Dialogue Systems and Components Best practice in development and evaluation (DISC) and the US American DA...

RESUME This paper presents a polarimetric interferometric SAR data analysis based on high-resolution methods such as ESPRIT. The ESPRIT algorithm is used in order to separate and to retrieve the interferometric phase centre of local dominant scatterer. In a second part, an extension of the ESPRIT algorithm is presented that allows to retrieve the polarisation information retrieval.

The estimation of coe±cients in a simple regression model with autocorrelated errors is considered. The underlying distribution is assumed to be symmetric, one of Student's t family for illustration. Closed form estimators are obtained and shown to be remarkably e±cient and robust. Skew distributions will be considered in a future paper.
