Understanding the links between large scale spatial structuring of fish assemblages and shaping factors is essential to develop comprehensive ecosystem-based fisheries management. In this study, we investigated spatial patterns of bottom fish assemblages in the North Sea in relation to prevailing water masses in the region. We based our analysis on catch data from the German Small-Scale Bottom ...
Agglomerative clustering, Two Way Indicator Species Analysis (WINSPAN), and Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) were used for the plant community analysis. Remotely sensed data was used as a surrogate in identifying and locating field sites from where floristic composition, environmental and spatial data were collected. Characteristic plant species of each community type are presented toget...
Secondary succession reflects, at least in part, community assembly—the sequences of colonizations and extinctions. These processes in turn are expected to be sensitive to the size of the site undergoing assembly and its location relative to source pools. In this paper we describe patterns of succession over 18 years in an experimentally fragmented landscape created in eastern Kansas, USA, in 1...
This prospective, longitudinal study examines individual differences in two conceptually related but empirically distinct domains of social-cognitive competence (cognitive interpretive understanding and interpersonal perspective co-ordination) as moderators of the relation between peer rejection and neglect and behavioral and emotional problems in grades 2 and 3. As expected, peer rejection and...
We prove that for a certain class of co-ordination games with increasing payoffs for co-ordination there are not necessarily pure Nash equilibria. This is achieved by introducing a particular model for the payoffs. This result is in contrast to the congestion game with decreasing payoff. We discuss a generalization of the model introduced which is of independent interest.
The objective of this paper is to compare the cost effectiveness of a co-ordination service with standard services for terminally ill cancer patients with a prognosis of less than one year. We designed a randomized controlled trial, with patients randomized by the general practice with which they were registered. Co-ordination group patients received the assistance of two nurse coordinators who...
Comprehensive and coordinated action across levels of government responsible for different policy domains (labour, education, housing welfare/health) as well local actors is crucial to migrant integration. To respond this need co-ordination, instruments are mobilised by countries. This paper presents six them, illustrate three categories practices supporting integration through better multi-lev...
The monitoring of ecosystems alterations has become a crucial task in order to develop valuable habitats for rare and threatened species. The information extracted from hyperspectral remote sensing data enables the generation of highly spatially resolved analyses of such species’ habitats. In our study we combine information from a species ordination with hyperspectral reflectance signatures to...
Multi-scale ordination (MSO) deals with potential scale-dependence in species assemblages, by studying how results from multivariate ordination may be different on different spatial scales. MSO methods were initially based on two-term local covariances between species, and therefore required sampling designs composed of adjacent quadrats. A variogram-based MSO, applicable to very diverse sampli...
